When my daughter came home from school just now, she had a letter in her take home folder that informed me the school had a bomb threat.

Apparently someone noticed a bomb threat written on the walls in one of the bathrooms, and the school went into "shelter in place" status, and called the police. After an hour or so, they declared the school safe, and the school resumed in a normal fashion again.

I remember when I was a kid and people would make bomb threats thinking they could get the day off from school, and I always heard from my Dad how kids had to walk through 5 feet of snow for 10 miles just to telegraph a bomb threat to the school when he was that age.

Even though they didn't find a bomb, it still makes me very nervous considering how fucked up kids are now-a-days. I'm hoping some kid wrote on the bathroom wall that he was dropping bombs as an euphemism for taking a massive shit in the place. :L

Some kid at my daughters school reported the other day, that there was a cougar wandering around on the streets. It turned out to be a hoax and was started with the intent of not having to go running during gym class.

I'm pretty sure he meant mountain lion when he said "cougar", although, looking at some of the hoagly women on the streets around here, the human version of "cougar" would probably be enough to keep a kid off the streets, too.

your post and another post i saw recently asking the question ... "remember when we used to organize our own lunchtime sports games as kids?" (which apparently doesnt happen anymore) is bringing back the elementary school memories

lunch time ball hockey in the outdoor lacrosse box ... game still tied .... lunch bell rings for everyone to go back to class ... pulling fire alarms so we could go back outside and play overtime

/no bomb threats though

My last year in college, right after the V-Tech shootings, there were a dozen or so shooting/bomb threats, usually during finals when people realized they could shut the school down. It is a very unsettling feeling going to class with the SWAT team greeting you at the gates and snipers on the roof.

yup...we did the same thing in elementary school - baseball, football, floor hockey with no involvement or supervision of teachers. It was great.

Nope, no murder-ball. Lots of bumps and bruises from British Bulldog (aka Red Rover), we played full tackle.

lol rep!!!

/ah spread

//thinking back on this ... we played on a grass field because the main field was gravel ... the grass field was small and around the perimeter was an asphalt walkway ... guys would get sent sprawling into it and come up looking like they fell on a cheese grater ... so much for being safer than gravel lol

and the teachers just let us play

In elementary school, we played kickball and wiffleball in grades 1-3, hockey and soccer 4-6. All unsupervised. Never any fights or problems. To here about IPW's daughter, and some the other stories makes me wonder how long people will be on this planet. We never worried about these things when I was growing up. I used to walk everywhere in the city I grew up in (Brockton. MA). I don't even like DRIVING through there today.

Between the bomb threat today, and the pedo that was trying to pick up kids near the school a few months back, I'm seriously thinking about homeschooling my kids, and having them grow up to be normal serial killers who kill other Fathers until they are ready to kill me.

Then of course there's Flames fans in Columbus who call in bomb threats to Steve Mason (and do so from their home phone) :L

/I think Chief Wiggum could have cracked that case...Nice looking fella below

Yeah, like I would be actually teaching them. That's a job for the lady of the house.

I get to go to work, and then come home to complain that the beer isn't cold enough, and the meat loaf is way too fucking dry.

We did the same during lunchtime and a lot of activities after school. It cracks me up when they talk about child obesity and that the kids are not eating the right food blah blah blah.

We used to pound down McDonalds burgers and fries with a chocolate shake and go play some more. Now the kids use that time on the computer and texting. If they want kids in better shape get them off of their fat asses and do some activities that require more than your fingers.
