Speaking of, MacTavish had a press conference where he basically washed himself of any responsibility. Pretty unbelievable considering he is a big part of the problem.

They need a complete overhaul of management, the losing culture there is ingrained.

Yeah I agree. They need to get rid of all the old ex-Oilers in management positions and start over. Goaltending is OK for now but trade off some of their high-priced forward talent for defensive help. If they can't get a franchise d-man in a trade or via free agency look to acquire a bunch of picks and draft one.

Maybe their scouting staff could use a retooling too. That was one of the first things Lombardi did when he came to the Kings. Personally I'm not real anxious to see them do that since they're in the Pacific Division with the Kings. But it's what I feel they need to do.

I agree that they need to rebuild their front office and not just hire former oilers but MacTavish can't really be blamed yet for whats going on there. He took over a team that drafted poorly (not getting defensive or goalie prospects) and hes only been there for a little over a year as a GM.

At least he drafted a defenseman his first year as GM there lol.

The thing is, the buck stops with the GM. Doesn't matter if he has been there for 1 week, 1 year or 10 years. Suck it up, don't throw your team under the bus.

I think the Oilers have proven since their 2006 run they are a losing franchise, I called this crap 5 years ago when all we saw was ex Oilers being given cushy jobs and running that franchise into the ground. It's sad really, because they were such an admired franchise for so long.

Hiring ex-Oilers (Fuhr, Lowe, Mactavish, is Esa Tikkanen the "Video Coach" like Emerson is here?) who just bask in glory years but do nothing to move the franchise forward is extremely short sighted.

As Ox mentioned, when Dumbo came here he wiped everyone out because the Kings were well into that poorly traveled road. He even shit canned the cleaning company if I recall, he wanted no stank of losing whatsoever in that infrastructure and basically did a management Febreeze clean. He inherited poor draft choices too from Murray/Taylor but went about it in a completely different way - guys like Karlsson, Moller, etc. and what not were gone by summer 2007 and shortly after. MacTavish has no excuse, period.

The Oilers have had so many shots at developing what could be a powerhouse for the next 15 years yet all they do is qualify for the Draft Lottery yearly. This is squarely on management and nepotism, nothing else.
