I believe the correct term now is "climate change." I don't buy it, though, because I don't think what we do can possibly have that big of an impact on what the world decides to do. Earth has been in an imperfect orbit, and its axis changes constantly, so why do changes in weather patterns surprise us? Did the Ice Age end because nomads were lighting too many fires? No. The Earth just went through another cycle. And that's what's happening now.

My sentiments precisely.

Exactly, I can't believe how easily people try to blame any weather changes on capitalism/big buisiness/overpopulation/George Bush just to push an agenda.

I think climate change partially being partially brought on by things man is doing is a sound and logical theory but I do not think its been proven and I get frustrated when I hear someone talk about it as if its fact. I also do not like how what should be primarily a scientific debate has largely turned into a political one. If we continue to allow party politics to affect scientific studies and debates then we are setting ourselves up for some real trouble down the road.

Either way, I think we need to curb a lot of the wastes and toxins we pump into the air and water. Whether it affects climate change or not, I think poor air and water quality are things we need to improve upon sooner rather than later.

Damn it, I'm trying to hand out rep in this thread and this is the third time I'm getting the message, "You've consumed too many carbon credits. Try again in 24 hours."

I agree wholeheartedly. I am all for keeping business & gov't responsible for their waste but they shouldn't confuse science and politics. That is a very dangerous game where the best of intentions can have terrible (and long lasting) consiquences.

There are a lot of reasons we should curb waste, but climate change is not one. It's the argument, not the goal, the bugs me.

Cutting down all the trees in the world would not make it tougher for us to breath. It would only eliminate a fraction of a percent of our oxygen supply. 99% of the oxygen we breath is produced by algae.

However, it would damage the ecosystem, causing several plants and animals to become extinct, thus violating the Earth on which we tread, while simultaneously destroying potential resources. Basically, it screws humans and everything around them.

But what it really comes down to is respect. We should respect our home. Besides, if we continue to destroy our home, eventually, as a living organism, Earth will attack us like our bodies attack pathogens. Not with climate change (which is not living) but with wildlife. Eventually, plants will evolve to be poisonous so that we stop destroying them, and animals will be aggressive toward us since they will identify us as threats. It will take a long time for those evolutions to take place, and they won't affect us specifically, but in a few hundred years, humans will start paying for their mistakes.

It's just the evolutionary cycle.
