I called up my cable company and wanted to go over my services to see if I could get rid of something to save money and perhaps boost up my internet service.

After talking to the woman for around 10 minutes, it was revealed that they were charging me for the past 2 years, around an extra $11.00 a month for equipment I don't have.

My brother use to live with me and we got another box for his TV. When he moved out 2 years ago, we returned it to the location closest to me. It was on their record that I returned it, but they kept charging me.

The woman told me she would credit my bill for 6 months of the 23 months they were charging me. I asked what about the other 17 months that is around $180.00? She had to put it through to a supervisor, who then did approve a full credit of the total 23 months.

I guess it's a good thing I discovered this now, and that it was resolved, but I guess you have you make sure you check over your bill closely, or they will get easy money from you for as long as they can.

My wife is the one who pays the bills and she never even knew they were charging us for a box we didn't have because of the way they word it on the bill.

It just looks like as a charge for the service that they through in with the package. They word it something like "AO service" or some crap.

At least for the next 2 months my total bill will be only $50.00 for cable, phone, and internet service.

They gave me 3 doors to choose from, and I switched doors after making my first pick, and I got the goat.

This revelation shocks me. Cable companies being deceptive, and raking legit customers over the coals?

THE HELL YOU SAY!!

I'm about to boot Direct TV. Wanted to upgrade to their whole house DVR and she said it was 99 bucks for install. I said "But I saw a commercial where it was a free install and she said "That's only for new customers."

I paused to see if she would figure out why I thought this was a bad idea. She offered "If you say you wanna cancel, they will give it to you."

"Okay, I want to cancel".

"I can't do it, only retention can. They is only here until 6."

"No. I want to cancel. Not just to get the deal, I mean really cancel."

"ummmm"

U-Verse for me..

Rogers (in Ottawa) is giving me six months free for internet, cable and home phone, as long as I commit for two years, which I'm fine with. Pretty good deal, includes PVR rental and their medium-level internet. After the six months, I'm gonna downgrade to all the cheapest services.

But we'll see how the first bill turns out. My friends have got horror stories from their dealings with Bell here.

the evil Fios man came to my house the other day...i swear i must look in my 30's because they always have no issue believing it's MY house. i'm 19 Mr. Fios dude...do you really think I could own this place? anyway, sidetracked there. cable companies are the slimiest breed out there. Comcast is outragous...we never, ever subscribed to HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc. but somehow we get all these channels and have been paying for them with out knowing (we didn't watch most of them knowing we never subscribed).

IPW, watch your Verizon bills too. I was getting charged for having voice mail I never ordered and went ballistic. I found it by dumb luck because I pay my bill on line and never look it over but had an interruption in service so I looked it over and said WTF!!!

These companies will screw you every chance they get. Watch your bills folks !!!

I had Verizon for phone service before I switched over to Time Warner through the internet. I was paying around $70 a month for the same thing I am paying $30 a month for now.

At first I only thought they were going to recoup me for 6 months only, and I was glad they did the full 23 so quickly without me having to get vulgar.

Thanks for the info. I am going to look into that. I know three people that were ripped off by Verizon.

Here in Vancouver, the Canucks unveiled a huge arena naming deal with Rogers, and announceded that Rogers' Sportsnet One would be taking over the Canucks pay-per-view games..... the only problem, Rogers has very little presence in the cable market in the west, and so far they haven't made the channel available to Shaw or Bell or anyone else.

My mom nearly got ripped off by Verizon a couple months ago too. My sister had some stuff come up so my parents offered to pay her phone bill for one month. They double charged my mom's credit card in store, and she didn't realize it until the credit card statement showed up the next month. Of course Verizon never acknowledged this in their statement. She had to call up Verizon 4 different times and listen to excuse after excuse as to why they couldn't refund the charge before she finally got the second charge credited back. It was pretty ridiculous.

I'm sure that will get rectified before too long (if not, get the torches and pitchforks ready).

I worked in our residential sales and services office (Verizon) when we were Bell Atlantic for 2 years. Just to play devil's advocate here i would say 35-40% of our customers who called for phone service etc... had no idea what products we offered to them.

For example a customer would call for caller id, and we had a package that included call waiting and home voice mail as well. They would agree to it, then call after the first bill and say they never ordered it. Meanwhile we would have to quote their bill to the penny twice so they would realize what they were ordering and get their agreement before we could add any services.

However once Bell merged with GTE our company got progressively worse. Then we absorbed MCI because theuy owed us billions of dollars. This company has not been the same since. At times, i am embarrassed to admit i work here.

Well, take comfort in knowing you made the correct choice, mathematically.

The Penguins signed up with FIOS:eek:

Someone better tell Mario to keep a close eye on his bill every month

New arena gets Verizon FiOS

Hey, maybe they'll send all the camera angles this year!

Glad you got your money back. Cable charges are a huge ripoff anyway though, they make a ton of money offering services which, honestly, are very cheap to provide.

Eh, market dictates that if you, or more importantly the other 300 million folks around you, want to watch it badly enough, the cable companies can charge what they want. What's their profit, though? 100% return on investment? Better?
