OT: Jason Collins (NBA) Annouces he is Gay

First athlete to come out from any major sport that I am aware of.

I had first read it, thought to myself, good for him, but who cares and kept on going. That was my initial response. Now I have been thinking about the kid wondering what kinda hell his life has become in the last several hours trying to answer questions and avoid some media.

I just do not think it is a big deal like most make it out to be. I basically shrugged. I would care more if he acted like a full fledged fruit, rather than a man. If he can be gay and act like a man, than I am cool with that.

Yeah, but that is the life of a popular American. Where you have to bare yourself to media otherwise they will bury you. Unfortunately, that is America now a days. Almost too much freedom of speech to where other civil liberties seem violated.

I do agree with crash about how some gay men act. I hate that kind of person, not because they are gay, but because they are annoying as hell.

While Wallace's views do not reflect the views of the Dolphins organization, I bet they do reflect the view of more than half of active NFL players.

To be honest, I don't think Wallace said anything wrong. He finds women beautiful. Me too. I have no issue with gays and think they should have all the same rights, but as a straight man, I don't understand how a person could look at a work of art like a woman's body and then go "nah, I like hairy balls and ass better."

Therein lies the problem..... The way you (and Mike Wallace) discuss gay is to make it seem like a 'choice' not to like women after seeing them. This flies in the face of modern/progressive thought.

Will be interested to see if any NFL players follow.

It's no news to me...Collins shouldn't have to officially "come out." It's his business, and his only, as long as he respects the rights of his straight teammates, there should be no issue. As for the comments of Wallace, I don't think they were malicious, and he shouldn't have to apologize for not understanding how a man could be gay, though he probably would have been well served to keep his thoughts to himself. Many other straight men don't understand, either.
