I was walking through the hallway with one of my students after class answering a couple questions (one of which was what chemistry joke he should use for his quote when he walks for graduation in May), and another undergrad who is dating one of the grad students in my class (who is waiting to decide if she's going to MIT until she hears back from CalTech, that nerd... ) heard our conversation, and asked the question, and, without thinking, even though I had never heard the joke, I came up with the correct response.

Wow, that was a long sentence.

Anyway, conclusion: I'm an enormous nerd, and I've gotten to the point where I pretty much live my field.

You have to bear in mind that I'm an automatic underdog in any fight because of my natural mental dispositions, so I'm only not afraid of people who are completely physically incapable of causing me harm.

Alright, I have to go warm up the instrument for the lab I'm teaching tonight. It was broken and I fixed it this morning, so I don't want the students to lose any time collecting data today. It takes a half hour to warm up, so I need to go in super early.

A big, surprisingly weak guy.

Though the size and a decently high tolerance for pain does pretty significantly limit the number of people of whom I'm afraid.

Vee is not exempt from my fear, though.

(And I typed "science" instead of "size" originally. I have a one-track mind... )
