I just don't understand why so many seem to think the Flyers will go after Richards, when they're in the same situation as the Pens as far as $ left and players signed...and I know the Pens ain't going after Richie (for...more than one reason...haha). But it seems like a bit of a pipe dream to me.

Yeah, I don't see where the $s are coming from for that. So, they sign Brad Richards and have $400,000 to sign like 3-4 more forwards? And they waive goodbye to Leino, who I think is a fantastic player. Doesn't make much sense to me either. Especially when Brad would not be a huge upgrade from Mike.

We're 3 back from the Brew crew, 2.5 (soon to be 3.5 with Cards up 5 on the Phils), and 2 back from the Reds.

I tihnk the Brad Richards rumor sparks from a rumored Versteeg trade.

They're gonna move some $$ around with waiving a few guys, but those are just more spots to fill. They have a lot of work to do without signing a guy like B. Rich, so I doubt Homer would make even more work for himself just to bring in a big guy like that after shaking it up this much already.

I almost feel like this move throws in the towel a little on 11-12 for them with the hope of being better in the 2-3 years after that.

JVR and Giroux will be awesome players in this league, but now they have a heckuva lot more pressure on themselves. Heck, I think the team as a whole does now.

My thoughts exactly. They could still be really good, but they're gonna have a lot of new guys working together and a lot of youth. Gonna take awhile to get a system learned and timing/comfort with eachother down. But, if these guys all pan out these moves could be the best thing for them. But, it's always dangerous trading proven talent.

A thought I just had while watching some of the NBA draft...
Every major league has a development program of some sorts, with the NHL and MLB having the greatest in the majors (IMO). It's a great thing to develop young, raw talent, and how many stars come out of the woodwork with some patience in that regard? Well, the NFL doesn't have this. If you aren't talented enough to be an everyday guy on a pro team, you're basically screwed. They let you go and you have to find other leagues to go toward, with no NFL team owning your rights, and typically very few scouts watching your progress. Can you imagine the amount of talent that's wasted because of that?!

On big move days like today, the Swamp never fails to be entertaining. This one was pretty hilarious from a doomsday perspective...

Bahahahahahahahahaha. Now you guys have no offense! Wait wait wait. Get a load of this powerhouse first line:

Leino - Briere - Giroux

Followed up by such an incredible second line:

Van Riemsdyk - Wait a minute, do they have any centers left? - Versteeg

Quick, everyone. Come order your Philadelphia Flyers Stanley Cup Championship rings! Call now, and maybe we'll sign you to play center for the team! What are they going to do? Have Bryzgalov lead the Flying V down the ice in transition? The only thing that will make this day better, is if they actually DO pay him $7M per season. Geeze, did the Flyers ever push the panic button. They must have thrown Jody Shelley's fat a/ss right on it. I wonder what the rationale was behind this. "Listen guys, we are a year removed from a Stanley Cup appearance. I think to get back, we need to trade our 26 year old-40 goal scorer, and our 26 year old captain. In return, we'll sign a $7M per year goalie, and bring in some black guy from LA." Championshipppppppppppppp

walsha Allan Walsh
Jonathan Huberdeau refused to look at or touch the Stanley Cup tonight. "Allan, I don't want to look at the Cup, I want to win the Cup."
What a player.

Surprised no big trades have been made tonight. All the talk was something was going to happen.
