I think it's just how the scientific method was taught to me. You can't follow that method for psychology and sociology, not in the spirit of its design.

They're valid subjects, they're just not sciences to me.

Well, I agree sociology and psych are more theoretical in a way, but they certainly have experiments in both that follow the scientific method. The macro stuff tends to be more theoretical b/c you can't have a control group for a society or a whole country. The micro stuff often follows pretty rigid controls like anything in biology or chemistry would require.
