Perhaps he should have fielded that ball, but the way McCutchen runs, there was no guarantee he was going to get him out anyway. It would have taken one heck of a throw. The play wasn't routine.

I think they should have given McCutchen a single, Murphy a one-base error allowing McCutchen to advance to second, and taken away one RBI.

But you're right, it never should have been reviewed in the first place.

I mean, the Bucs can be jerks and challenge some of the stuff today to make it a hit (which would be pointless). I don't understand why baseball allows something as stupid as challenging that, merely because of a pitchers ERA? Stats are just stats, they mean nothing when it comes to wins and loses. Just stupid.

I agree. It's just petty. And it cost McCutchen a hitting streak, which has the potential to be historic. I doubt it would have been anyway, but hitting streaks aren't something you mess around with.
