Also at least in my league the percentages of assholes was very high. Is it like that in every league? There was taunting and a ton of showboating. One game when I was catching some guy was doing a big home run trot , while his team sung some stupid song, and as he gleefully crossed home plate proudly I said "Dude*, its softball" which seemed to confuse him.

I find that co-ed leagues are a lot more fun and laid back than all dude leagues. Also, it's less controversial when you hookup with the shortstop.

I find that co-ed leagues are a lot more fun and laid back than all dude leagues. Also, it's less controversial when you hookup with the shortstop.

I played in a co-ed flag football league for a few years. That was a lot less serious and fun. You had to use a girl at least once every third play. We were fortunate, we had one that could catch and catch over her shoulder so we'd throw her a bomb and it usually worked. Well the first time against a team. Some teams actually had girl QBs that worked well and really opened things up for them.

I think most enjoyed it, there were 8 people per side and I think 3 were usually girls. At least on my team a lot of the girls played defense. We played 3 or 4 years with virtually the same team so they must have been OK with it.

I played softball on a league in the early 90s. Our idea was it was 'just going to be for fun' and the people that practiced were going to be the people that played. So first game of the year there were suddenly 5 new people I never saw and thereafter the same 4 people (including me) were sitting on the bench each game.

So I complained and the fucker coach had me pitch the next game. At least in my league they were very picky about the pitching, so after never attempting to pitch ever it was a disaster. I lasted an inning and a 3rd!

My hitting was good, apparently my stance made it look like I was really going to pull the ball but my slow reactions usually had me line it to right field. My fielding was an adventure, I'd fuck up easy plays and make plays I had no business making I guess because I didnt have time to think about it.

Not a big regret, but I do regret I didnt tell our coach to go fuck himself. Twenty years later I still think about that now and then.

it always starts out that way ('its just gonna be for fun") and then something will spark competitive juices in some people

when I grew up playing baseball (fairly competitively) our entire team would always laugh at slo-pitchers and tell ourselves we would never resort to playing that ... we also all thought we would get carded at the Blue Jays or Mariners scouting clinics lol

i really enjoyed playing slo-pitch for the years that i ended up playing (the arrival of kids has halted my budding career) ... above brawl story not withstanding i never got too worked up over slo-pitch. We always had to hustle to get players ... lotsa fun

one year we had a bunch guys from Thailand ( lol - software engineers ) on the roster who we would work into games on occasion. They didnt know the rules ... Another year, we couldnt find a pitcher and we ended up with a 60 something year old guy who had zero mobility but he could get the ball over the plate and seemed to know every person at every softball tournie we entered

I played for years in the broker softball league, and as you can imagine, there is a lot of testosterone (and trying to impress the receptionist) going on. we were playing against a team that took themselves WAAAAY too seriously. the had a center fielder dressed up to the nines like that, just wouldn't shut up. chirped every single player that came up to bat. I told him to let his play do his talking, and he plays the race card. "You dis-respecin' me cause I'm black" he was really playing it up. I just said, "No, I'm disrespecting you because you're an asshole"
so when I come up to bat, he comes way in (no batter, etc). His team was telling him to back up, not be an idiot, it was a close game, etc, but he was firm in his commitment. So I put a fly ball out to where he should have been, and get a triple out of it. I give him a big cheesy :thumbs up: from third, which shuts him up momentarily.

speaking of black centerfielders in Vancouver ... Pirates fans ... remember a guy named Valentine Henderson??? dont remember if he ever ended up playing a major league game ... played in your minor league system mid 1990's .. Welland, ontario not sure if that was double A for u guys
