Question for you guys...

Are most CFL fans also fans of the NFL because they like football? Or is it more about a chance to cheer for a team in or near your hometown? I don't even know if the NFL broadcasts in Canada or not. I know I haven't even clicked by a CFL game on my cable in years. I was just curious.

really? lol

Im a fan of both because I like football. That being said, there are alot of people up here who call themselves football fans and only follow NFL exculsively because they consider the CFL inferior. Last time i checked, I think its ok to like both. Sure we might not have the best athletes but we have history and rivalries.

It will surprise some but CFL on tsn gets higher ratings than HNIC. Its a cash cow for tsn

Yes, I would say the majority of CFL fans are also NFL fans because they like the game of football. However, there is also a strong contingent of Canadian fans who love the NFL and hate the CFL because they consider it "bush league".

I fall into the former category, I grew up watching CFL football and went through a stretch where I didn't miss a Stamps home game for a four year period. I realize that guys in the NFL are bigger, stronger, and faster, but as far as entertainment value is concerned, the CFL is tough to beat.

R.I.P. Jani Lane.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jani Lane, the former lead singer of the metal rock band Warrant, has died in Los Angeles. He was 47.

Officer Sara Faden says Lane's body was found Thursday in a Woodland Hills hotel. She had no immediate information on the cause or circumstances of his death.

With his long blond hair and tight leather outfits, Lane embodied the excess of 1980s "hair metal" rock bands. He joined Warrant in 1984 and wrote such hits as "Heaven," ''Down Boys" and "Cherry Pie."

He had an on-and-off relationship with the band, leaving it in 1992 before returning and quitting again several times.

In recent years, he appeared in VH1's "Celebrity Fit Club" and made news for a drunken driving arrest.

He is survived by two daughters from two previous marriages.

Being a teenager in the 80's, I loved Warrant and pretty much every other hair band of the era. Sounds like he may have never got past his demons.

Sounds like you both are on the same page about NFL "snobs." Had no idea and find that kind of weird. While I guess I get wanting to see the best players, I would think as long as the competition between teams is comparable, it would be fun to watch and still filled with dazzling plays. Thanks for the perspective.

You guys should start a thread called "Ask a Canadian" where the Canadian posters help learn us 'Mericans about your unique ways, your different laws, your love of syrup, and your fear of the dark.

Maybe the passenger was stung by a jellyfish?!? :noidea:

NEW YORK — An 18-year-old was dismissed from the U.S. Ski Team's development squad after he was accused of getting drunk and then urinating on a fellow passenger aboard a JetBlue flight.

Robert "Sandy" Vietze was detained by police at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday morning after arriving on a red-eye flight from Portland, Ore.

He faces a federal misdemeanour charge of indecent exposure, according to the U.S. Attorney's office in Brooklyn.

"Based on the information we have, Sandy Vietze is in violation of the USSA code of conduct and team agreement, and has been dismissed from the team," U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Executive Vice-President of Athletics Luke Bodensteiner said in an email sent to The Associated Press on Friday.

The AP's attempts to reach Vietze and his parents for comment have been unsuccessful. The phone has been ringing unanswered at the family's home since Thursday, when news of the incident was first reported in the New York Post.

Vietze was nominated to the development team this spring after excelling as an alpine skier at the Green Mountain Valley School, a top ski academy and high school in Waitsfield, Vt., where tuition runs as much as US$42,384 per year. He had been scheduled to compete on the national ski team's developmental squad for the 2011-2012 season.

A Port Authority Police Department detective wrote in court documents that Vietze told him he had consumed five or six beers and two rum and cola cocktails before boarding the flight. He said he passed out in his seat and awoke to find himself being yelled at by the father of a 12-year-old girl.

The girl's father told the detective that when he returned from a trip to the bathroom at 2:30 a.m., he found Vietze urinating on his daughter.

The man described Vietze as "out of it."

The Port Authority initially told the AP and other news outlets Thursday that federal prosecutors had decided to drop the indecent exposure charge, but a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office, Robert Nardoza, said Friday that the case is still pending.

The charge carries a maximum fine of $1,000 and a possibility of up to a year in jail, although time behind bars would be very unusual in such a case.

Sounds like the father was WAY overreacting here.
