What is setting up? Sorry, have to fulfill my Mac owner superiority complex stereotype! ;)

Coning is out... Ignoreing is in. (and yes, spelled wrong on purpose)

Its more about getting work files copied from the one PC to the other, not too much to set up. Then me being picky and trying to get things to look like I expect them to instead of trying something different. More about setting me up.

Ever listen to Don and Mike? They used to have a bit where people went through drive throughs and told the person "I Love You" to see if the could get the worker to repeat it.

I remember hearing them a few times back in the day. Never heard them do it, but that's a good bit.

I listen to the Sports Junkies most days.

So, people are submitting their own cone-ing vids now. People are getting pretty creative with it. Check out the 0:25 mark. (Also at the very end is pretty funny.)

The thing is...Pedro's going to first eventually, right? Why prolong it. Overbay just sucks...need something. And Jimenez...dang, if we get him I'll just. Wow.

Pedro's more valuable as a third baseman. They should keep him there as long as he's capable of playing there. His bat becomes less impactful if he moves to first.

Oh, also, my internet's down at my new apartment, so you won't see much of me until I get it fixed. We're repairing a laser at work right now, so there won't be a lot of time for SportsHoopla here, either. Just over lunch and right now because no one else is here yet.

I'm going to start doing stats at my softball games. Since I'm the new guy, I don't get to play, so I need to occupy myself somehow.

The thing is, I agree with what puck said a couple days ago about needing to hit .600-.800 in slow-pitch softball, but that's just not the case in my league, at least according to the eyeball test. Lots of 1-2-3 innings, and I think my team is only hitting like .200 or something. The league's probably around .400. Either no one can hit or everyone is a good fielder, but I'm not sure which yet.

LOL @ the black lady at the 57 second mark.

"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?" then in a completely different tone: "Here, let me get you another."

It depends on the league too. If you play in a church softball league where every ground ball is an adventure, then sure, you should hit over .500. Even then, .600+ would be among the best on your team and .700+ is going to be a top player. But as you move into higher tier leagues, the defense is better and it's tougher to keep an average that high even if a really excellent hitter.

Starting out with 1 strike and having foul balls count as a 3rd strike doesn't help matters either, especially when you forget about that rule. ;)

My entire approach from high school baseball is completely shot. I looked in one spot on the first pitch, and if it wasn't there, I took it to see the pitcher's stuff. If it was a ball, I looked in that same spot again, and wouldn't swing if it wasn't there. If it was a strike, I'd swing at anything in a good hitting zone. I liked to see a lot of pitches, and I liked to foul a lot of pitches off until I got the one I wanted. I probably saw an average of 6 or 7 pitches per at bat, and it resulted in a good average and a lot of walks (and unfortunately, a lot of strikeouts, too).

Well, that approach will no longer work, unfortunately. Of course, since it's slow pitch, I should be able to tag anything anywhere in the hitting zone, so maybe I should just abandon the idea of an approach at all and take my cuts like Juan Uribe.

Such an idea pains me.

Well, there's only one, maybe two power hitters in our entire league, and every short stop we've seen so far (including ours) is pretty slick. There have been surprisingly few errors. So I guess we're a higher tier league.

EDIT:

In HS, I was very un-athletic. I was the kiind of kid that was relegated to the outfield all the time in gym class. Well, one day, I somehow found myself playing shortshop. Amazingly not much was hit to me that day, but the first one that came my way was a little squibbler just past the pitchers mound...I charged the ball, bare-handed it and sidearmed it to 1st base for the out while still on the run and off balance. I was proud of that play.
