I think the entire list you posted are great movies, I just dont think they were subtle. Funny and clever, just not examples of subtlety in my opinion.

And yet the quote that I was directly referencing was an example of GREAT subtle humor. (I hate guns, and will only get in a fight if I can get away scott-free, but if we go to war, I got your back)

Sure, it is. I dont think the movie overall is though. Nor the others. Maybe just me. Again I think they are really good and funny movies. Just not subtle.

I also think there are plenty of really good funny movies now and think that there were plenty of really crappy ones back then. So I wont join in bemoaning the state of comedy now compared to the old days.

I took a look at the movies he was behind (either as a writer or director)...

Animal House
Stripes
Caddyshack
Meatballs
Vacation
Ghostbusters
Back to School
Groundhog Day
Analyze This

That is simply amazing. Classics, every one of them.

absolute legend.
RIP.

The New York Times headline calls him the "Alchemist of Comedy." That's a pretty great tag line.

His writing credits are ridiculous. If you made a list of the funniest movies from the late 70s to early 90s, he probably had a hand in a good 1/4 of them.

And not too many great writers also had an unforgettable face like his. RIP Harold Ramis.

A tweet I saw and liked today.

Signs you're a genius: Stripes is the 6th funniest movie you made.
