Pet peeves. Everyone's got them. This one is mine.

I am preparing for this competition. Hard work is required beforehand, yadda yadda yadda. That part isn't important to the scenario. Every time I tell someone about the event, they ask "Do you feel ready?"

I never know how to respond to this well-intentioned question as I find it completely pointless.

How could I feel totally ready? It's impossible to prepare for everything. The answer should, logically, be no - but then people will think I'm lacking confidence (which I'm not). Therefore, I should answer yes? But that is a lie. And anyway, guess what? It doesn't matter how I feel now - it matters how I feel right before the competition begins. That's when it counts. This is why I feel the question to be a waste of time and a thinly disguised vacant attempt at seeming interested in a pursuit which is not commonplace amongst the ordinary, good-natured populace that makes up this great country of ours.

And as I have directed this question to the hockey board, I will be very disappointed if the very first response isn't the question, "Do you feel ready?"

Don't let me down.

I have prepared as well as I think I can, and I can't wait to get out there and see what I can do.

I was born to love you
I was born to lick your face
I was born to rub you
But you were born to rub me first
