OT: Direct TV genie

If you dont have it, and you have direct TV.. man up. I wasn't sure about it for a while because I didnt want to drop the $300 for a new box. But if you have an HD DVR already, add the Genie. I can now record up to seven games at once, in HD. Straight looking forward to the season this year. Because now I can basically record every game in the season and watch at my leisure. And the picture in picture on the big screen aint to shabby either.

Must fess up. I get a company partner discount. LOL

But even if I didnt, I would pay for it. I now have the space to record every game in the season and watch them as I see fit.

Damn, Shark! Thanks for the info on the Genie! I saw the commercials, but did not pay THAT much attention to it. I already have DirecTV and have a regular DVR. I don't know how much more it will cost to have the Genie, though. I'm already on the second month of my early renewal of Sunday Ticket. Watching every Redskins game and tapping into others was the coolest thing, last year. I haven't been able to see every game that the Redskins played, since I was at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. back in 2002. Anyway, being able to record seven games at one time should be the coolest thing. I'm calling them and will see how much more it will cost to get one.

i like the nfl red zone . when i had direct tv i found myself doing what red zone does for me . looking for scores

however that recording all the games and watching them at your leisure is a huge option

as for the girl she should have left what she had alone . she was beautiful to start

Problem I have with redzone is, IM not in a normal Skins broadcast area. So when I tried it, I kept getting bounced to the Bengals or Browns or some one else when they were in the redzone. I prefer to have the option to switch between games rather than being bounced to the next scoring opportunity by a team that I wouldnt normally be watching if the Skins were playing at that time.

Beauty of my new setup is, I have the genie DVR in tthe mancave and it can record up to five things at once. I have the HD DVR in the living room, so unless the wife is watching something in the living room, I can record almost every game thats on since there are usually no more than 8 games on at 1:00 most weeks.

yeah that is a huge option i dont mind red zone i am in west MI so i get bears and lions and packers . now that the skins are more national it gets better . its 7 bucks a month

My cable provider here in Florida sucks sweaty nut though. If I didnt need the broad band capability they offer in order to work from home, I would drop a stick of dynamite down the brighthouse box and have my dogs trained to pee on their trucks when they are in the neighborhood. And my Sunday ticket runs me $230 for the season. So I can deal with it.

oh yeah its a good deal . what i like now a days is you can get dish / direct tv on your computers and cell phones
for me , since i travel during the 1st half of football season i can watch games at work or record them for after

I work in IT. So I have a 4 monitor setup. Can usually watch a game on the big screen, and 2-3 games on the PC while Im hitting the boards. But normally I just watch a game on the TV, have my fantasy games up on the PC, and the boards up on the main screen.

Can't you just watch NFL short cuts of each game? I have directtv and live out of redskins market, and can watch any game I want, while waiting for the skins to be on, and any other game later on, as soon as they short cut it.

Doesn't seem worth it to me, or I guess I don't understand why you'd bother...

I found out that is how much it actually cost. However, I'm holding out til 11-15. That is when I'm eligible for a n upgrade. Then, I can get one for free.

Yea, I wasnt good for a free upgrade until January. BUt I worked that out too, I reuped my contract and got the genie for free and a free mini client. One thing I will mention though is every mini client takes away a recording channel from your genie unless you are actually watching what you are recording. HD DVR has 2 tuners, so you can watch one thing, record one thing. Or record two things as long as you are actually watching one of them.

Genie has 5 tuners and works the same way. You can record up to five, as long as you are actually watching one of those five.

I have one HD DVR and a Genie, plus one HD Reciever. So I can record 7 and my wife can still watch what she wants on Sundays in the bedroom.
