Most of the focus this week is because she was actually good, even won the pole. I think it surprised the shit out of people.

Call me a sexist asshole if you want, but it's very, very difficult for me to watch any woman competing in a male-dominated sport. She's a brilliant marketer though. The whole bitchy act of her's works so well. I despise the bitch and when she shoved that guy in the pits, I wish he'd have knocked her on her ass.

I would have tapped it instead.

Same thing here as all athletes that get too much media attention. You get people who love them and people who hate them.

Lets not forget that she is the 1st women to ever win the pole and then actually go out and lead a lap at Daytona..Quite a accomplishment if you ask me.

You mean her incident with the late Dan Wheldon at Milwaukee? - Yeah; that was classic Danica.

... But nothing beats her 'cat-fight' with Milka Duno at Mid-Ohio in '08:

Why was so much focus on Danica? I don't like her necessarily (I mean, does the world know there are other female drivers?), and I think she's only in the spotlight because she's sexy/marketable, and think other drivers of the female persuasion wouldn't get the same chance. I won't lie though, really cool that she led at one point.

Not to put too fine a point on it, her entire fame is based on what she has in her pants. With her talent level, if she were male, she would have vanished from professional racing after a year or two. She started in a series where the cars were identical and races were coin flips. She won a few coin flips and moved up to a series where her teammates were winning consistently, and she was rolling around in 20th consistently in the same equipment.

So she realized the only way to stay in the news was to scream and kick and shake her lady bits in commercials. That's why she is not in Indy anymore. Her act got tired fast. Moving was not her choice.

So now she's back where the cars are identical and the outcomes are coin flips. And it just fits her perfectly that she is now in a series that puts marketing above all else. She'll win one this year. After a week of carefully produced stories about her struggles.

I stopped paying attention to NASCAR when Dale Earnhardt Junior managed to defy the laws of physics in the 500 after two weeks of stories about how he was facing the demons of the track that killed his dad. Late in the race, with half his front end missing, he managed to pass 8-10 cars without a draft partner up in the clag up high.

So you will pardon me if I don't believe the rolling roadblock earned her pole position.

I mean, this is essentially how I feel.

To the whole "can't cheer for a woman in male dominant sport" comment way above...that I think is silly. If there's a sport that a woman can compete in it's this one. It's not about size or strength it's about wits. I just tend to think there's probably a more talented woman driver out there, but because that woman has the audacity to not shake her lady bits, she'll never make it to the stage Danica is at now. I HATE those Go Daddy commercials. HATE. Congrats, you're a woman who made in a male sport, but you lost my respect by stripping to the nude and selling yourself and your respect as a woman.

Her name is Susie Wolff and she drives in the DTM (German Touring Cars) series. She frequently out drives former F1 world champions. She's still a little and inexperienced, but she gets better every race. She was recently named a test driver for an F1 team. That is not a status only position. You don't get there unless you can throw a car around.

Whether or not you are a sexist asshole depends on the intent behind your comment. If you are implying that you dislike watching women in "men's" sports because they get far more attention than their talent level deserves, well, I understand where you are coming from.

If you are saying you don't like it simply because they are women, then you are a sexist asshole.

I'd like to point out either way you are a sexist asshole for using bitch as a slur towards a woman - it's one of those things people say but don't really think about despite the fact that it's clearly derogatory towards one gender. There are plenty of non-sexist but still intentionally rude things you could say. A few examples:

Asshole
Penguin fan

You young folks probably don't remember Shirley 'Cha Cha' Muldowney, but she was pretty impressive on the NHRA drag racing circuit.
