WOO HOO!. Cruz did give himself up. He looked back at the defender and dropped to the ground. It is the correct call.

that's a rule that needs to be revisted... I mean what makes that different than not being downed by contact?

then again they can say the ground can't cause a fumble... but loop holes i see

A rule is a rule. Sure it is a strange rule but the right call was made.

I disagree. Why would he give himself up in that situation when they were in real need of yardage to get into FG range? I've seen QBs do it when sliding or a player goes down to preserve some time on the clock but this guy did it out of pure stupidity. He forgot he wasn't touched and started thinking college ball just like Plaxico Burress did only they called a fumble on him.

Don't get me wrong,I'm thrilled to see the Cards lose a gaqme they had won but that is just a terrible call.

to the bold, I can see why he went down. He got the first, plenty of clock and didn't want to risk a fumble so he went down.

BUT I agree he lost his train of thought and fooled himself thinking it was college ball thus killing the play. He was saved by his stupidity... if I were an AZ fan, I would be crying for murder.

But if thats rule, that's a rule that needs to be revisted and adjusted cause that opens to a lot of misntepretation IMO.

The Gaints were down. Why would he be giving himself up at that point?

Who knows...

The Cowboys were losing and facing 4th and 20 and Felix Jones walked out of bounds untouched. Players sometimes do stupid things and sometimes the rules save them and make them look smarter than they are.

A Cardinals loss with Kolb looking extremely unspectacular... this day just gets better.

I seem to remember a situation in St Louis a few years ago when the Niners were losing and Cedric Wilson didn't go down making him a pariah.

Maybe Cruz realized he was surrounded (there were at least 3 Cardinals within 2 yards of him) and decided to go down and conserve time rather than fight for 1 yard, take 5 seconds off the clock and possibly fumble?
