9 players and 2 goalies per division. Not that out there to think 4 Kings could make the team with how bad the division is (Quick, Toffoli, Carter, Doughty)
This is just stupid. This is like a highschool terny. I'm sorry just have a freaking all star game of West vs East. 5 on 5 with a goalie. I want watch this crap.
For me it's not just the All-Star game. That is just a part of the problem. The NHL has been messing around with the game over the last few years, an IMHO not for the best. The changes that they have made are a joke, they have a sideshow feel to them. They are gimmicky. First it was the shootout, then 4 on 4 overtime, now 3 on 3 overtime. The stupidity of the overtime point for a loss. Yes the all star game is a joke. But it used to be great to watch the big stars playing on a team, no defense just show off hockey. No other professional sport in North America, has changed the rules so much in the last decade.
One can argue that the NFL has made some drastic changes, but these changes did not drastically change the game. Baseball is the sacred cow in the eyes of their fans. And the MLB would not dare make the changes the way the NHL has.
I'm sorry for the rant, but I am truly upset by this. I for one, was fine with ties that is how the game has been played for decades. You may call me old fashioned or a traditionalist, or even an old fart. But this is simply how I feel.
The problem is every year us and everyone else complains about how boring the all-star game is because there is no hitting so the NHL tries to do things to keep people interested. I don't remember any all-star game really being all that amazing to watch so going back to regular east vs west wont be that exciting to watch either.
Personally I have no problem with 3 vs 3 OT because at least its getting games done without having to go to a shoot out.
I don't think we will ever go back to being able to have ties nor do I think we will ever go to a 3 point system (which actually wouldn't have that much of an impact on standings based on adjustments done under each idea of a 3 point system the standings would be pretty much what they had been each year).
It's not perfect but 3 vs 3 is a pretty good compromise to me.
