I know pozz usually has a list much longer than this, but I'm just curious who everyone thinks might be some of the top HC candidates going into next year. I've come up with a few of the obvious ones...

Bill Cowher - Obviously he's probably the biggest name out there right now and if anyoen is going to have a shot at him it will most likely be on the East Coast.

Dom Capers (G.B. DC) - He's obviously been a HC before and has never achieved much of anything at that level. With the small list of candidates out there he may have yet another shot.

Perry Fewell (NYG DC) - He was one of the top candidates last year and is probably going to get a job somewhere this off season. The question is where?

Mike Zimmer (Cin. DC) - He's one of the more under rated Defensive Coordinators right now IMO. He's a fiery coach, but only a year removed from his wife's death i wonder if he would feel it is the appropriate time to relocate and take on such a position.

Greg Manusky (S.D. DC) - I still think it's too soon for him, but i believe pozz had an article last year stating that he was a name being thrown around in some circles.

Urban Meyer no longer seems like an option after this came out yesterday...

“I am very happy with my role at ESPN,” Meyer said in a statement. “I have no plans to return to coaching at this time.”

Isn't it great not to add "that the 49ers should go after" to the end and the inevitable debate? Granted, even if we weren't 7-1, Harbaugh would have a bit of a leash.

As to Urban Meyer, he said he was happy in Utah before he went to Florida. He's not like Brett Favre in his saying one thing contemplating another, but I wouldn't be so sure. Having said that, I don't know jow he'd do in the NFL. I suppose one year is to short to can Fox. ;)

Yeah, well i don't think we will have to worry about that for a while. It's slim pickings right now. This might ensure guys like Jack Del Rio, Norv Turner, Andy Reid, Steve Spagnuolo, and maybe even Tony Sparano keep their jobs.

I think Urban is enjoying having more time with his family while still getting a a paycheck. I think that keeps him off the field next year. What will be interesting is to see who fills the Penn State vacancy.

What will really be interesting is to see who would actually want it.

This sort of belongs here, but I found it really interesting that people are saying that with Harbuagh's success with the 49ers, it's OK to start looking into the College Ranks for NFL HC jobs again.
