Santana will never make it past the minors. His top end was 80 something and we have guys going down and are younger much more valuable assets come post All Star break.

Worth a shot in the dark for the price.

I was so happy/surprised thinking we signed Ervin.. but nope!!

Not that I really want Ervin, but I wouldn't be upset with that move, but I agree for the price why not sign Johan

Ha! That you did.

It appears Eduardo Rodriguez was psyched to hear about it. That's another upside to signing him.

I don't mind this at all. It's a low risk - high reward type deal. If he doesn't work out, there wasn't a lot of money spent. If he does work out and round back into All-Star form, we got one hell of a deal.

:agree: I just hope they don't bring him up anyway if he isn't effective in the minors come June or whenever.

oh sir peter willing to risk 3 million for nothing . johan has an opt out of june 1st . it does seem they are looking at him as a bp arm this year . bundy and him could be ready for a playoff run . throw in gausman lurking around and gamboa knuckle ball has been pretty good . I do think Norris will be moved sometime during the season .

Agreed, though I hope he proves us wrong. It would suck to see Santana's career end like this. He looked like a HOF lock just a few years ago.

The career numbers are impressive. Problem is, he has just over 2000 innings.

Frankly, I just don't get the acquisition. I just don't see him in the majors.

There's no risk to this signing. He's not taking up a roster spot. If he can contribute this year, great. If not, you move on. Come June or July, if he's pitching anywhere close to the old Johan it will be a big boost to this pitching staff.

Sounds like he wants to be an O more than a BJ, just waiting to see if the O's will meet the offer.
