hopefully the game just goes by as a battle of Luongo and Buff calling each other "son" like has been done in the past and no loopy stuff happens between the two

the sunday CBJ game is an afternoon start (our time) so maybe thats why Luongo gets this game ... guess they dont want to mess with Luongos game day prep routine

ATLANTA — Tomas Holmstrom landed on his back Wednesday and Dustin Byfuglien could land on his lap Friday. But Roberto Luongo appears better equipped to handle crease-crashers. Part of it is a better and more focuse demeanour and part of it is a technical adjustment that is keeping the Vancouver Canucks goaltender from being vulnerable to injury.

Holmstrom made his presence felt during a crease scramble in Detroit and who knows what may occur Friday at the Phillips Arena.

"It's not a big deal as long as it isn't with the intent to injure," said Luongo. "The fact I'm playing deeper [in the crease] this year there's not as much contact on screen shots. I'm able to make more save without having guys bumping me. The only time there's really chaos is when puck is laying in the crease and guys are going for rebounds — which is pretty much the case with every team in the league."

Yeah alot of people are saying that. Im not entirely confident myself. I still have canuck jitters. They have had a way too easy of a season and have dominated pretty much at every corner. not sure what happens when real adversity happens (being down 3 games to 1? or 2 games to None) they have overcome some pretty serious injuries to the D for sure and even a slow October start. At the End of October they were 4-3-2. since then 44-14-7. that is 3 losses a month basically since then. I think my math is right. thats pretty dominating.

as a canuck fan until something really amazing in the playoffs happen I always have a feeling of dread. (I think almost every fan of team that has never won a cup has that).

I still think Detroit is the team to beat this year overall. but the Canucks are nothing to look past.

Did you walk there?

The Canucks can probably just about finish off the Thrashers dim playoff hopes.

I thought all the orcas were destroyed when the ring was cast into the fires of Mount Doom.

not sure it requires its own thread so Ill put it here

Theo Fleury doesnt think the canucks will make it out of the first round ... no matter who they play

twaud.io - Audio for Twitter - Theo Fleury speaks out about the Canucks not making it out of the first round #Canucks #Flames

Fleury: Canucks will lose in first round - sportsnet.ca WAP

his thought is because we coasted into the playoffs (which Im almost in agreement with on why it could hurt us) and the Roberto doesnt have it in him. I dont agree this year, hes been the most consistent in his career I think

Ballard returning to the scene of the crime

The collective confidence often plays out in a comedic manner. Keith Ballard didn't have to be reminded that the Phillips Arena is where he took a two-handed, baseball-like swing of frustration on Nov. 30, 2009 after the Florida Panthers had allowed a goal in which the defenceman was late to corral Ilya Kovalchuk. Trouble is, he struck goalie Tomas Vokoun on side of the mask when he aimed for the post and dropped his teammate, who was taken to hospital to be stitched up for an ear laceration.

"The boys were giving me a hard time about it already," said Ballard. "What are teammates for if they can't give you a little heat now and then? I was obviously trying to break my stick and I was a little frustrated. It was a tough year and I wasn't playing that well at the time and we weren't a very good team. I got frustrated and handled it the wrong way.

"You see a guy every know and then break his stick or smash it over the boards or the post, but it was kind of a learning experience to be more careful. He [Vokoun] was actually awesome and it made the whole thing a lot better, but it was obviously a low point for me and an accident."

However, Ballard didn't escape the ribbing and Roberto Luongo said he'll have his head on a swivel tonight.

"I'm trying not to make eye contact with him, he might snap at any time," chuckled Luongo. "Hopefully, he won't be on the ice when we get scored on."

""Luongo hasn't proved to me that he's a top-flight goalie because he's great in the regular season but he's had a couple series' against the Chicago Blackhawks where he's laid a golden egg when his team could've went to the Stanley Cup finals." - Theo Fleury

Anyone else confused by that quote? Shouldn't it just be a regular egg?

Fleury seems like he says just about anything these days.
