Anybody ever use this? I set it up to install Ubuntu in a VM and it seems slower than molasses installing Ubuntu. Probably should have tweaked the memory settings but went with defaults.

OK, that first install sucked. Defaulted to 640x480, found the setting for screen resolution and upped it to 1280x720, 128MB for video and 1GB RAM (Hey I can spare it). See how this goes, if I like it I may try a Zorin machine next.

Oh hells yeah, got it. Had to install Guest Additions to get the video to work correctly. Kind of a lag doing some stuff in the VM, may up the RAM another 512MB to see what happens.

Posted with Firefox running Ubuntu inside a VM running on Windows 7....

There's a lot to it, I doubt it can be sped up but for testing Linux distros it might be kind of neat. Really don't want to dual boot my SSD and the Live CD (even on USB stick) isn't much faster than the VM it seems.

One thing VirtualBox needs to do is add install from a USB flash drive, more and more PCs are coming without a CD/DVD reader these days. And take advantage of the newest Intel chips and powerful video cards with tons of RAM, I mean 128MB video RAM is the maximum? Sheesh, I've got 1 GB on my video card and hardly ever use more than 256MB running Windows.

Well hell, Zorin had problems installing in VirtualBox. No windows controls (min, max, close), they use GTK replacements for Ubuntu...maybe a bad DVD burn. Might try it again later, but Zorin has always been a bitch to install for being an Ubuntu derivative.

I'd advise getting the cracked version on any FTP or Torrent site.. Meaning that you should go for VM Workstation.. Allows you to emulate 64-bit operating systems with minimal bugs, such as Ubuntu or Mint Os.. Leading from a USB or HDD is still the best option however..

Figured out that to install Zorin and Mint correctly you have to tell VM VirtualBox it is Ubuntu from the start otherwise it doesn't do the install fully. And for Zorin you just skip the step for extension upgrades and just load the CD ROM option... :D
