Good question. Yeah mac sucked but who wouldve known that? Lou should've and Lou should've canned him earlier say thanksgiving. That's what Lou does he gets paid to evaluate and run a team. He totally missed the boat on mac and he totally kept ssailing into the rocks when he shpuldve jumped overboard.

The number one thing is the Devils play a system. That system was changed a bit by a new coach. The team didn't respond well to the new coach. They got off to a horrible start.

i didn't really mind the reason behind the benching, but at the same time, i thought that mac had a big time tendency to hold certain players to different standards,

and suprisingly yet unsurprisingly, i really thought he had a hard on for either players who played for him last season in lowell or players like rod pelley, who, don't get me wrong, i don't have anything against those guys, but i also think that you need to recognized the proper way to use them, something that mac completely failed to do

There were a few things that went wrong but the biggest problem, BY FAR, was J Mac. If Lou replaces him with Lemaire a few days after Thanksgiving, this team makes the playoffs. Lou waited too long.

I seriously doubt that. We didnt miss the playoffs because we fell off near the end, we missed because the top 8 finally started playing the way they should have throughout the year.

sj is right those 2 losses to the sens is what killed this team. the margin for error was way too slim...lou replaces mac a few weeks earlier and you can afford to lose some games

your kidding yourself if you dont think kovachulk brought fans in this year....imagine how many wouldve been there if he wasnt on the team this year! wow! just wow! i guess he wasnt responsible for the turnaround the team had? but he was to blame for the team sucking at the start of the year?

as for gomez...is he overpaid? YES no doubting that.....was he great on this team? decent argument but you cant hide the fact that this team is still hurting at center ever since he left. put gomez on this team right now minus the salary and this team is a stud! then i say go after larrson in the draft or hamilton.

thing is he played hardball with nieds in i think 97 when he sat out the start of the regular season played hardball with gomez didnt offer rafalski a contract and let gionta walk. yeah nieds left to play with his brother but your not telling me you get burned by your boss once and when you can finally stick it to him you dont? stop son if you dont believe that i have a bridge i'd love to sell ya!

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer here. My thinking is that we saw how the team responded to Lemaire just a few weeks after he took over. Move his replacement of JMac up a few weeks and that's a few more weeks of solid hockey. It could have been the difference.

Definitely agree with this. Since as soon as Mac was gone the team showed what they were capable of. So it has nothing to do with the teams above us or anything else it clearly was just Mac. It's not nice really but that's the truth.
