From today's paper:
So much for the Giants moving their 2011 regular-season opener against the Dodgers to AT&T Park.
That was proposed by ESPN (and supported by Major League Baseball), but the Dodgers weren't on board. So the new plan, sources familiar with the negotiations said Wednesday, is for the Giants to open at Dodger Stadium, as originally scheduled - but on March 31 (Thursday) instead of April 1 so ESPN can show the champs as part of a season-opening package.
An announcement by MLB could come today.
ESPN's proposal had been for the Giants to open at home against the Dodgers on March 31, then play April 1 through April 4 in Los Angeles, as originally scheduled - making it five straight against the Dodgers.
The revised schedule will move up each of the four games one day and leave April 4 as an off day.
The Giants will open at home April 8 against St. Louis, the original plan.
This was a bad idea from the get-go: one game in SF followed by four in LA, all against the doyers. I'm glad the idea (and the idea to open the season in Taiwan) was scrapped.
Now I've got to convince my wife to travel to LA for her birthday weekend so I can see some Gigante/doyer action.
