One thing I hope we don't do is turn into one of those passing teams that is always in shotgun passing a lot, I hope our running offense doesn't take a step back; to me we need to make sure that we are balanced on offense..those passing teams that passes a lot like the Patriots and Saints that to me is not the formula to win. Why do you think the Patriots hasn't won the Super Bowl in a while? Because they stopped playing smart football; when they were winning the Super Bowl some weeks they'll beat you with the screen passes, other weeks they'll run the ball and beat you in a close defensive game..how come we can't be physical like how the 49ers and Seahawks are?

You're asking for a lot!! Since 1993 these are the Head coaches that led Washington and my personal note.

1. Richie Pettibon.......Never really had a chance to implement his style on an inherited team.

2. Norv Turner.......Career Offensive coordinator, who never had the horses that he once enjoyed in
Goat-roper land.

3. Terry Robiskie......... Fill-in

4. Marty Schottenheimer...... Best chance to implement the style you're hoping for. Owner and HC
clashes spelled doom for him.

5. Steve Spurrier............ Gotta coach em' up.....Danny Wuerffel......Shane Matthews.......Patrick
Ramsey........Tim Hasselbeck

6. Joe Gibbs.............. Fire was out in a hailstorm of praise prior to his second go-round.

7. Jim Zorn............... Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

8. Mike Shanahan........ Like my adult children tell me, that's real old school dad, we're adults now,
let your efforts in raising us speak for itself as we adapt them for today's kids..
A lesson never learned by this guy.

9. Jay Gruden............. Take your cues from the team that he formerly worked for.

With the exception of the NYGiants no team in this division have head coaches that once was the hallmark of the most dominant division in the NFL. Maybe Gruden surprises us much like Gibbs did in his first go round, we will see!!

I think you need to prepare yourself for our running attack to take a step back in terms of attempts. Gruden was a very pass happy OC in Cincy. We have added weapons at WR. This does not mean that we will not have an affective Running game, just won't be used as much.

I agree with j_y, seeing Gruden's offense in Cinn. I would expect the team will run less under Gruden. They have two new wide receivers and it seems that it is Gruden's MO.

Interesting observations about coaches. Mostly we think Gibbs wasn't as good the 2nd time around. Just by wins and losses that is true. However he is the only coach under Snyder to take the team to the playoffs twice.

Shanahan is still taking a lot of heat for his stint here. He took over a terrible team, got to the playoffs in year three and then the wheels came off in year 4. I attribute that to Shanahan, Snyder and Griffin. Other than Dan's first year as owner Shanahan is the only other coach to get the team to the playoffs.

I hope that you're right about Gruden, a lot of people seem to forget that Joe Gibbs initially came here from the pass happy Don Coryell tree of coaches. Tried to implement that same system here then realized that it was not working.......... adjusted the team and his philosophy to create what wins.

My thoughts exactly when I first read that.

Gibbs was 0-5 when Joe T came to visit and discuss a change in offensive philosphy. He needed to do something before he was in big trouble.

I do think Gruden will use Morris but I still think he is going to be a little more pass oriented than Mike Shanahan was. I think there is a good chance we will see DY catch a fair amount of passes this year.

I really hope RG3 learns to use his RBs in the passing game when there is nothing else there. This will show a big step in his development as a pocket passer.

I think Gruden will kick his butt if he doesn't.

As written in context, of course, why wouldn't I?.....better, why wouldn't you? Don't come back with that silly nonsense about Gibbs being a SB winning coach...it doesn't apply. The comparison was between Gibbs coming from a pass first offense to Gruden who comes from the same and as stated might have to adjust his offensive philosophy just as Gibbs had to do. We would be so lucky to have the modern day Gibbs in the person of Gruden.

100% true but I think a successful running game is part of a good offense. Nothing kills a clock or helps control the clock like a good running game.

Especially when you are playing the likes of a chip kelly offense. You need to be able to grind it out to keep their O off the field.
