Solid 3-1 win in Colorado. Makes them 6-2-2 on the season now.

Give them a couple more seasons of NHL experience, and they are going to be scary good.

They have a lot of good young talent. They will be in contention for a few years.

Shots on goal tonight were 41-19 for Colorado...I'd have to check to verify, but I think the Oil have been outshot in every game this season.

They are getting some good goaltending, but will it last?

Do you want me to answer that question or do you just want to find out for yourself in about a month and a half? I just can't keep my money on him...

SOG can be deceiving Dash. Not saying the Oil are close to a cup but that's a stat I'm always skeptical of. The Red Army team always played for quality shots and would roll back into their own zone to start a rush. The Red Wings play a similar style now with puck control. It's not the number of shots it's the quality of shot's.

Some teams have high SOG against but if they are perimeter shots with no rebounds it's not a big deal.. To be honest I haven't seen them play a lot but stat's do not always tell the story and they are a young team.

Based on that game I saw that has to be some bullshit score keeping in Denver. The Avs had very few decent scoring chances.

This is true. It's one thing to get a shot off, but it seems like you need some traffic in front at all times nowadays.

Also, a lot of defenses will give you certain shots if they have some faith in their goalie. (not you Philly...:bounce:)

The Sabres play that style. They may get out shot but the quality of shots are low.

Yes, I'll agree that some teams have hometown scorers that inflate the SOG and hit stats for the home team. However, I've watched quite a few Oilers games this season and they are playing better defensively, but have been quite opportunistic in their games. Let's just wait and see how things look at the end of November.

I've seen Lidstrom shoot dead in the corner and have it be way more effective than what a ot of players chuck towards the net. Some shots on net might as well be recorded as a turnover.

I'm just saying overall. True any SOG is a good shot but I was saying what a quality SOG is. Let's not forget a quality SOG can vary from team to team.

If some teams take a shot like you mentioned and no one is going to the net it CAN be useless. It a team plays a style where they crash the net it's can be a different story.

How are you liking your new shots from the point in B-Lo so far this year?

Seriously, who are the guys in the Oilers uniforms? Is this really the same team that was dead last in the NHL last year? Tonight they just totally smothered a solid Kings team.

Western Conference better wake up, this young team is on its way.

As I look at the overall NHL standings on this Friday, November 4th, I see the Leafs occupying top spot with the Oilers in the 2-hole. Quite surprising to say the least, but since it's Friday, let's go to Old Guy Radio for today's message.

Even the worst NHL teams will have a 6-2-2 stretch most years. I think more than likely they just hit their good streak at the start of the year. Their top O-line is impressive, Bulin Wall playing out of his mind, but they have problems at the back.

I think Dash's song is pretty right on, though I think the Leafs are more legit as a playoff threat than the Oil.

I agree with eloco about the Leafs, they have more depth than Edmonton which will allow them to hang around longer and maybe even secure a playoff spot this season.

The best thing about this nice start for Edmonton is they look like they won't be in the draft lottery this season (time to spread the wealth of #1 draft picks).

As much as I hate the Leafs, it is cool to see them and Edmonton battling hard again.

edit: Isles too.
