I'm sorry to see Ohlendorf released. As pitching-challenged as the Pirates are (even with the addition of Bedard), I would have liked to see them give Ohlendorf one more shot..... a bird-in-the-hand kind of thing.
Clearly, he wasn't any good last season, but he had a good year in 2009 and pitched reasonably well in 2010 despite his awful record. Someone once said, if he's done it once, you know it's in there somewhere.
On the other hand, perhaps the Pirates' assessment of Ohlendorf's physical condition was the deciding factor. Obviously, they know more about that than we fans do. At any rate, I sincerely hope that the 2009 version of Ohlendorf doesn't wind up somewhere and pitching well against the Pirates.
