OHL hands out another 20 game suspension

When you think about the other OHL suspensions...I don't think 20 is enough. There's suspending a player for hockey plays that go bad (like the Kuhnackel hit, which deserved a hefty suspension, though 20 seemed a lot), and suspending for things like this...just blatant savagery. I think comparing the two, this one deserves more...but that's just me.

I agree. Any time you use the stick solely and intentionally as a weapon, it should be punished severely.

The only kind of taunting that warranted something that bad was that player who hugged an opponent after scoring. He deserved to get punched in the face with no penalty handed out.

Just because someone taunted you doesnt mean you can two hand him and then beat his defenseless body when its on the ground.

I see the taunting player as a very Avery-esque play.
a total douchebag move, and then turtled when the reaction came.
that's what Avery does all the time.

so I don't feel too bad if a player like that gets a shot in the head or a slash in the tummy.
he was asking for a reaction, and he got it.

Marek just tweeted he got 5 games as well...wow. I don't get how a hockey play, a stupid dangerous one that is, gets 20 games, but a blatant clearly intending to hurt someone slash/beat down gets 5.

While I agree he taunted a little, there's just no place for a freaking hack like that, then beating up a guy you just cut down. I just don't see how that's 5 and hit is 20. The hit was bad, and deserves a suspension like that, but I guess I just don't think it's any worse than this. JMO though.

I hate to agree with a pens fan, but I do in this particular instance. 5 games is a joke, I don't even think 20 would have been severe enough. He could have done serious internal damage to another player and by his reaction following the swing it was clear he had no regard for the other player's well being...

This is what I was going for. A face paced play and sometimes it's tough to control your body...controlling yourself from viciously axing a guy down is just part of being a human being. You get angry, but you don't freaking attack a guy like that. I realize that the hit could have caused more damage, but heck, if 5 games is all you get for hacking a guy like that, it's not a TON of discouragement. I think that a slash like that in the NHL garners a 10 gamer...at least.
