A pretty vicious slash by Ryan Rupert of the London Knights (as a player on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds celebrates an empty net goal)

Absolutely brutal. As if the slash wasn't bad enough he decided to drop the gloves and jump on the guy afterwards. Worse than Dale Hunter!

I doubt the slash hurt so much. The pants usually cover that area unless he got him in the few inch gap between top of pants and under the chest protector.

The thing that pissed me off was he put a lot of muscle into it, after the play was over, after a goal, and then proceeded to throw his gloves off and go to town on him while he was laying hurt on the ice.

Scumbag should not have the privilege to play hockey at this level.

Well, as I said, if it were his 1st offense, a nice, long suspension should apply, but he should be forewarned that it is his one and only chance. Next offense is banishment from the league, and I think the NHL should let it be known that any type of banishment for such actions will result in forfeiture of eligibility to play in that league as well. This should go for such offenses in any league in the world

Here I was on the OHL for a suspension I thought was too long last week and now I'm gonna be on them for not making this one long enough. There's absolutely no place for that in hockey.

Ok, get that guy out of hockey forever. 1 season wouldn't be a big enough suspension.

really? 2 minutes for slashing. :noidea:
maybe a 10 min unsportsmanlike.

sometimes when you slash people, you slash to hurt them.
this is one of those times.

I hope this is just my sarcasm detector not working...

nope. it was a slash. not a headshot, not highsticking, just a slash.

not that much different than the 2-hander lumberjack shot Corey Perry applied to Sedin's hands late in the game last night.
asshole move to be sure, but a 2 minute penalty.

He did also try to fight the guy while he was on the ice

He took a baseball swing to his midsection after the play was over, and the dropped his glove and started pummeling his defenseless body.

How that can be defended I have no idea.

sure, 2 + 5 for that (instigate + fight) is reasonable. was at the end of the game too, so maybe there's an extra 10 or game misconduct for that. Not sure of OHL's rules on that. But i still say the slash was just a slash.

back when I was playing competitive hockey, when I wanted to fight someone, that (a nice healthy slash or hook) was a pretty effective way to let them know. It's gotta be hard enough that they don't just skate through it.

not defended.... it was a penalty.
I think a 20 game suspension is absolutely ridiculous for it though.

for the record, I would have given:

4 for slash, 17 for the attempted fight (including instigator and game misconduct).
he would probably miss one game for that misconduct.

and I'd give 2 to the other guy for unsportsmanlike conduct for his acting like a dick after the goal.

if he didn't jump on the guy after, I'd give 4 for the slash + 10 misconduct,
and I'd still give 2 for unsportsmanlike to the other guy.

What would the other guy get 2 for? Scoring? I think the problem most people have is that this was after the play. Do you think that Hunter's hit was just a good check? No, it wasn't...and this wasn't just a slash.

Just my opinion, but I think 20 games is about 10 games too much. However, David Branch (OHL commissioner) is known for bringing the hammer down. Definitely worth of a suspension though.

basically, taunting.

he scored the EN goal, and skated right over to the other guy to celebrate in his face.
that's unsportsmanlike conduct, and that's what Mr. Slash was reacting to.
to borrow from Chris Rock "I'm not saying I condone it... but I understand".
the "victim" isn't just an innocent bystander.

no, Hunter was a dirty play. But Turgeon didn't go neener neener neener in Hunter's face after he scored either.
