At least trading up to get Davis didn't really hurt us.

We gave up a fourth round pick, but were able to grab T. Gibson who was a 2010 4th rounder cut by the Steelers last year.

Oh wait, go ahead and scratch that one now...

I think that it's a little too early to panic about the offensive line. During the season, I expect Harbaugh will look to establish the run, and be successful with his power run scheme. Once the run is established, Smith will work off of play action, which will likely slow down over-eager pass rushes. We didn't see much of the run game, probably due to only having six practices.

If he weren't a 49er I'd be right there with you Ray. I didn't like him in college AT ALL. He hopped around in the backfield insetad of using controlled, graceful movements. He has the body of a great RT, but so did Kwame Harris.

His one saving grace would be if Rachal is gone next year and he does a Gallery and moves to guard. Then he could ditch his matador-like blocking style and just hold his ground against DTs. ...That is unless they "Bull" rush him. Yuk yuk yuk.

I read today that Boone took 1/2 of the snaps at RT.
That's a start. If he can outplay A. Davis so be it put in Boone.

Same thing should be happening at RG with Snyder and Rachal. Play the best guy at RG as well.

Start giving Goodwin all the snaps at center and put the Snyder at center experiment to R.I.P. Give that Stanford rookie C Beeler or whoever the backup snaps at C.

But I'd like to see a two way battle at RG and at RT.

I am deeply concerned about the line; especially right tackle and right guard. Hopefully Goodwin can come in and right the ship.

Im still pulling for Davis at this point. if he struggles Im sure Boone will be licking his chops at the opportunity to take Davis RT spot.

...And, even if Davis does lose his job, if he has determination to match his youth, then he will be a force behind both Staley and Boone for years to come. Either way, we can't lose anything for giving Boone a shot, IMO.

I'd like to see a lineup of Staley/Iupati/Goodwin/Rachal/Boone for a good two quarters against the Raiders.

Davis was the 2nd youngest player in the NFL last year. His first year is a gimme. I'm giving him a pass until the latter half of this year. If we haven't at least seen improvement from his horrible play so far by that time then start your booing.

Agreed, he's turns 22 this year. He's still learning technique, we knew he was raw potential when we drafted him. Let's give Solari time to teach! We're all so excited to have him come in and coach the O-line, he gave his approval (I would believe) on drafting Davis, so I'm willing to show some patience.

I'll join the give Davis a bit of time boat since it was clear that he was young and raw when we drafted him.

With that said though I'm for the best guys to start and I do want to see Boone and Snyder get opportunities to push these guys. I mean it's not like benching Davis suddenly means his career is over and it's possible allowing him to sit, learn, and have motivation might be the best thing for him.

Snyder is nothing more than a backup IMO. Hoping for him to start is pretty low in regards to our settlement with the OL...

Davis has all the tools just needs to focus and solidify his technique. Let's go Davis! You too Rachal!

Come on Goodwin, win the C spot!!!!! you're a freaking pro bowler for god's sake!

I'm not panicking.......but I am working under the assumption that its just not a good O-line. Weren't horrid last season, but poor, and until I see signs of improvement I can't project anything very optimistic.......obviously they're young, but just need some sign of progress.
