NJ Devils: Sweden West
Just finished watching the Devils in 60 replay. Couldn't watch live.
First: Thank god they got a win. This effort should buy MacLean a few more weeks IMO. Now they can settle down without the pressure of getting their coach fired with one bad game. They need to build off this effort though. We still haven't won two games in a row this year (hard to believe right?)
Looking forward to the Rangers game for a minute: I believe this is a bit of a mixed blessing. One one hand it's great because the Devils can't "ride" this win. They know the Rangers, and especially Henrik have killed them over the past two years. It will be a war and they know that. Of course the flip side to this is that it will be a very, very tough 2 points.
Tonights Game:
Colin White: He was stung by the bad luck curse that has hit this team early, but other than that he was a tower of strength.
Andy Greene: He was phenomenal --> the play late in the third where he outworked two Chicago fore checkers and skated away like they were 12 year olds was a glimpse at what we got last year. Let's hope he can continue that excellent effort. We need him to play at a high level.
Eckford: 1:55. Holy cow, if that doesn't tell you this team is desperate to get A-train back, nothing will. They obviously have zero faith in his ability to handle even 5 on 5 time. He's obviously going to be the one coming out.
Magnan: The opposite of Eckford. He's earning his minutes and although they're still sheltering him a bit, he still got in 15 solid, yet unremarkable minutes. That's exactly what they need from him. This kid really came out of no where, but this organization knows how to develop NHL ready players. Good for him.
Tallinder: a combination of all those is all I have to say. He could certainly use A-train's help. He just gets knocked off the puck a little bit too much IMO.
Kovalchuk: Solid game. Used his body and he makes the best decoy on the team.
Elias: Same as Kovy. Solid. Gelling with his line-mates nicely.
Arnott: Solid effort, nice goal. Doing what he needs to do.
Finally, my favorite player Travis, I finally scored a goal, and hit like a freight train, Zajac Wow. He had a great game on every level possible. Sick shot on his goal, and he was running the hawks over before they even realized they were under attack. He's got to be one of the best two way players we've ever had. If he doesn't win a selke at some point in the next three years, it's a travesty. I have to believe that opposing teams hate playing him. He plays so comfortably in all situations. On top of that he easily saves a goal per game with his backchecking. I think a whole lot of people will be looking at him differently after the next three months. He's certainly going to step out of Parise's shadow a bit.
On Parise's Injury: Obviously it sucks that he's hurt, but this might have been one of the best things that could happen to this team psychologically. It's like the theory that the Devils benched Kovy because they wanted the team to realize they can't wait for him to save them. Now they all know Parise and about 40 goals disappeared. That's one heck of a wakeup call.
