I wouldn't go WR just because we have so much young talent there already. A defensive back who could, you know, catch, would be nice.

David Amerson is remarkably good at catching the ball. A ball hawking, CF type player is exactly what we need beside Nelson.

Why go WR with Jones, Sanu and Hawkins in the fold?

like Sanu and Jones...but if you hit on a guy like Hunter you could have a ROddy White/Julio Jones type thing going on. Before he got hurt, people compared Hunter often to Randy Moss.

I'm comfortable with the young WR's, though. It's a luxury pick. Safety is clearly a bigger need. Don't know how prudent it would be to pass on a guy like Elam that is a known commodity with tremendous upside for a CB that you're projecting to safety.

I think most of them say that because of his size alone.

Agreed on the fact that it's an 'extra' pick, but I dont want that to discourage our staff from picking another safety as well

Hokie, what do you think of Gio Bernard? You probably watch way more ACC than I do. Is he worth a first or high second? Saw UNC v. Virginia and was not overly impressed. Plus, you can get productive RB's later on. I loved Vick Ballard last year and he went 4th or 5th...and should be a pretty good back.

I like Franklin from UCLA the best out of this class, though Bernard looks like a really good prospect in the 2nd.

I think Jones is basically the same player as Hunter.

And as far as Elam goes, I just think Amerson has too much potential to pass up on.

Gio is probably the best back coming out this year. I would be surprised if he falls to the 2nd round. But that's not to say we wouldn't be able to find someone Ballard-esque in the later rounds.

As a college fan first, I can tell you I am VERY happy to not have to play Gio again next year.

If you're looking to get in some type of 1/1a WR situation, I would be a lot more comfortable going after a guy like Duane Bowe in FA than drafting another young guy. We have plenty.

Don't those guys usually end up at wide receiver?

If Ogletree is there for us to pick, take him. He is lights out good. We need LBs, Safeties and CBs.... and probably Olineman.

The QBs in the draftt his year are awful. Feel sorry for the Chiefs and Bills... they will pay big $ for average QBs.

No they won't. Not with the rookie signing cap.

Those days are gone. They will still make good money, no doubt, but nothing like they did before the cap.

Howard is a FA and so is Lawson. Who knows if we sign both back. Even of we go Lawson has been average at best and who knows if Howard can be the same after coming back from injury. While I like Lamur, we need to draft a LBer high in the draft. I think either Ogletree or Mosley one.

Here is the thing that is going to piss everyone off, and listen, this is NOT my opinion, just an observation.....

Marvin Lewis is hanging his career it seems like on Maualuga getting his shit together. He has named him defensive captain, he has him stuck in the middle for better or worse for probably the next 5 to 7 years. That puts Burfict on the outside, with a need for another outside LB, but Howard was our best defensive player last year. If he is willing to come back, I can't imagine us not resigning him, if healthy, to continue. Howard is not old, he is good, and Marvin Lewis loves him. I seriously think, LB will be one of our last thoughts come the draft, which is a shame, because I think Maualuga is terrible. I just don't think it matters what we see, or what we think, as it appears Lewis has made his decision.

If we are going to hang our heads on Maualuga at MLB, we have to surround that guy with a lot of talent to offset his mistakes. We need safety desperately. We could use another DE incase we lose Dunlap or Johnson soon.

All in all, we hopefully have Dre coming back strong and healthy next year with at least a year of knowing what to expect under his belt.

We need a RB, S, DE, OT, C, backup LB's, G's, QB and probably CB. We need to resign Jones. One more good solid draft like the last two should put us in a position to compete for the next 5 years.

I think you're partially right, Marv has a since of investment in Rey M. But I don't think he'll persist in that over 5 years if it isn't working out.

Unfortunately, I believe you hit it right on the nose re Rey M. They seem really happy with his recent play.
