slipped and fell on trusses, luckily they were 2 ft. on center. landed on one truss on my left side of my back/ribs. caught myself from falling. dropped my Bosch wormdrive I was carrying in one hand and the bottle of water in the other 15 ft. This was before lunch, worked the rest of the day in a bit of pain.

No surface bruising, for pain, on a scale of 1-10, 10 being compared to getting kicked in the balls, I say its a 7 maybe 8. Don't think its broken, I think I would be in serious pain, but it does smart when I cough or twist around and shit. Thinking about popping ibruprofen and heat pad it and go work again today.

could have been worse. :L

Thanks Steve. didn't go to the doctor. everything on the net that I've found basically says the same thing. Doctor can't do shit for ya, rest and time is what it takes for rib injuries. Maybe an x-ray to rule out broken bones, but I'm pretty sure nothing is broke. This is killing me, I'm really active and need to get out and work or do something! Going to walmart for a
heating pad and some icy hot patches.
later

An x-ray would be a good idea as you said you could have a fracture.

On a related hawaiian rib injury note, Colt Brennan was hurt pretty bad in a car accident...

yeah, I came home from work yesterday and it was all over the news. Pretty bad wreck on the other side of the island I live on. bummers.

Go get an x-ray. I've had cracked ribs before and by the sound of it, you might have some also. I know how painful they can be.

Nate,
ICE NOT HEAT. For the first few days you want to ice it. I know many people hate the thought of icing, but in the acute stage of an injury it's what helps to decrease (or at least prevent extra) swelling, which in turn then helps to decrease pain and pressure on the area. Trust me...ICE is the way to go.
Just my tidbit of info for the day!

Oh, and as far as X-raying it...well...it's not vital that you have X-rays done necessarily. The only reason I would say you should have them X-ray'd is if you suspect a major fracture which may have the potential to puncture a lung. Like you said, the only thing the Dr will tell you is rest, ice, and here's some drugs (if you're lucky).

Having had broken ribs and bruised ribs its not a lot of difference in degree of pain, discomfort, and treatment. Just take it easy for a few days. Hopefully you can get some rest, to me that was the hardest thing.

I've had tender ribs before, the secret is boiling them on the stove for 90 minutes before putting them on the BBQ to finish them off with a nice marinade. They fall off the bone.

/In all seriousness Nate, take care and get healthy.

Thanks for all the helpful info! Actually went to work today, not the smartest thing to do but I needed to make some OT. Taking the next few days off, going to see the doc. Thanks again.
