Man...

Gotta sleep this one off to even dive in. Kings definitely opened it up, and there were some moments of excitement, but wow did they get exposed on defense. Kings had some great chances early, and just didn't capitalize. It's like they're re-learning to use their skill again.

I said this in another post but the body language on this team doesn't look good at all. In the past when they went down a goal or 2 they didn't quit. They didn't hang their heads. This team looks beaten as soon as a goal is scared against. A shake up has to happen quick. You can't give up this many points in the season and expect to climb back in the mix later.

Someone needs to needs to get pissed off start doing something about on the ice.

A lot of thumpings of late. Rebuild may be a conversation worth having.

I keep saying it is only one loss in a long season, but it will be a very long season if they play like they did last night.

That was nothing short of painful to watch.

The Isles handed the Kings their lunch, much better team play, flow and goaltending which is odd to say because Quick is pretty reliable and Lehner was a mess the last few years (addiction and mental health issues, lots of great reads all over if you look. Good to see a guy get back on his feet again and trending in the right direction) after having a lot of potential earlier in his career.

Granted Quick wasn't sharp, but not playing in 2 weeks and getting back into the groove will take a few games since he's played only 2 games in 2 weeks but it stinks to get your number 1 goalie back but then lose your number 1 center in the same game. Kopitar must have the shits bad or something because that guy never misses games.

Overall this team is lacking a serious identity, they aren't offensive and they aren't defensive, they seem like they don't know what to do. We're seeing coverage and blown assignments alarmingly higher than at any point (to me) during the last 10-11 years.

I think some of this core has run its course and needs to be moved because they aren't what they used to be.

Stevens' hot seat should have gotten a little warmer after last night.

No Kopitar, so that's a factor for sure. I thought they sent the D a lot, which accounted for the goals. I love pinching in more, but it seemed the a complete 180 from they've been, so somewhere in the middle is obviously ideal. I liked the energy, and it wasn't for lack of effort. But they got back into it at 3-2, and then got overzealous and allowed that 2 on 0 rush to make it 4-2.

If they open it up like that, then it's going to be a serious transition, and I don't know if they can hang. PP had some life, so that was good.

Carter sighting has been good, and his speed appears to be coming back (He didn't finish on two glorious chances before eventually getting the PP goal).

Overall, that was a different kind of bad, with the odd-man rushes that we aren't used to, but I am for trying new things because the grinding style wasn't really working. Maybe the answer is to just do a rebuild, which opens up so many other questions, like assessing what value guys have and who should be moved. Probably still early for that conversation, but my microscope is on Stevens first and foremost.

I mean, I try not to be knee-jerk but this team has been trending a certain way for awhile now. I re-upped on Season Seats a few years ago and it's been very hard to watch the Kings do a whole bunch of nothing the last few years. But I catch about 95% of the games and I'm just saying it like it is, that it's harder and harder to find redeeming aspects of the team right now. Might have to really consider some big changes.
