Back-up Bob gets the 4th straight start, of course.

- Ryan Whitney is a healthy scratch for tonight's game vs Canucks. :confused2:

No worries, Justin Schultz is from the future, he doesn't eat, he doesn't sleep, he doesn't feel pain.

The only thing that Canucks need to worry about is my rather large vCash wager I have placed on tonight's game.

The Sedin boys are due for a big game and they like playing against the Oilers (I think a remember a 9 point game up in Edmonton last season). Or maybe it was two seasons ago?

Could have been both. They do tend to light the Oilers up.

I hate to say this, but teams better beat the Oilers now because this team is going to be dangerous soon. That first line is sick & the 2nd line isn't bad either.

The biggest challenge will be managing to keep all the young guys together and still being able to build a competitive team with the money that's left over. I don't know if Lowebellini knows what to do when they don't have the No. 1 overall pick.

I have some bad news dash. I think they can do it.

Hemsky has 2 years 10M left on his deal. When the deal ends RNH is a RFA.
The following year Horcoff's 5.5M comes off the books. That's when Yakupov will be a RFA.

Other Players who will become UFA's at the same time RNH becomes an RFA are as follows:

Ryan Smyth 2.25M
Eric Belanger 1.75m
Ben Eager 1.1M
Devan Dubnyk 3.5M

Heck the Oilers have some serious cash coming off the books at the end of this season.

Ryan Whitney 4M
Khabibulin 3.75M
Ladislav Smid 2.25M
Andy Sutton 1.75M
Ryan Jones 1.5M
Mark Fistric 1.475M
Darcy Hordichuk 850K
Lennart Petrell 825K

all this says to me is that they will lose any depth they currently have. sure they can sign their stars but at what cost to their overall depth? are they going to go with a bottom roster of AHL players?

Here's the thing - Oilers fans like to compare themselves to Pittsburgh and Chicago, yet Pittsburgh was/is strong down the middle with Crosby/Malkin/Staal now Crosby/Malkin/Sutter. Add in Letang and Orpik and Fleury in goal and that's a great team. I don't see anybody currently on Edmonton that compares to Crosby and Malkin (in my mind, they are generational talents).

Now, let's look to Chicago - Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp lead the way up front with Keith and Seabrook on the backend and Crawford in goal. A little weaker than the Stanley Cup championship team, but still a formidable lineup. Here Edmonton is a little closer, but I still give a sizable edge to Chicago especially on defense. Will Schultz turn into a Duncan Keith? Yeah, it's possible, but the main core guys on the Hawks are still young guys or just entering their prime.

Once RNH, Yakupov, and Schultz are off their ELC's, will they want at least $6 million per like Eberle and Hall? That will be $30 million to five players with no idea where the salary cap is headed. As Matty mentioned, it could be tough filling out the 3rd and 4th lines.

Oilers powerplay break-in play seems to be
1. give it to Taylor Hall, then stand and watch him get checked at the blueline
2. regroup in your own zone
3. repeat

and Eager is still out of the lineup after his Kassassination

Kieth Ballard hipcheck - eliminates player in dramatic fashion
Mark Fistric hipcheck - misses player completely, busts own ass, leaves game.

Why does Rexall Place have the benches on the opposite side of the ice than seemingly all other arenas :noidea:
