Had Missouri not lost I guarantee we would have been 6th today.........easily. And actually we wouldn't have been too far behind LSU

this is the problem with computer rankings and the polls in general

nebraska played with their 3rd string QB but the computers dont know that, and a lot of voters I would guess also didnt take that into account,
so a team goes on the road in conference vs a team on a winning streak and wins an ugly game in the weather without their best player

but you drop them in the rankings

"Margin of Victory" was removed from the computer polls in 2002. Nebraska averages #6.4 in the computer polls NCAA College Football BCS Standings Week 11 - ESPN (BCS throws out their lowest ranking).
If there is any bias in the polls it is the humans.

If the humans are taken out of the equation..

1. Auburn (ave.1) Undefeated
2. TCU (ave. 2) Undefeated
3. Oregon (ave. 3) Undefeated
3. LSU (ave. 3.6) Lost to #1 Auburn
5. Boise St (ave. 5.6) Undefeated
6. Stanford (ave. 6.1) Lost to #3 Oregon
6. Nebraska (ave. 6.4) Lost to Texas (4-5)
6. Okie St (ave. 6.6) Lost to Nebraska
9. Mich St (ave. 9)
10. Wisconsin (ave. 10)
11. Alabama (ave. 11.2)
12. Utah (ave. 12)
12. Missouri (ave. 12.4)
13. Iowa (ave. 13.2)
13. Ohio St (13.8)
16. Oklahoma (14.8)

Nebraska's loss to Texas is the worst loss of the bunch, yet they are still not out of it by computer standards. TCU and Boise's computer rankings are going to continue to slide as the season continues in strength of schedule (especially if Oregon St, Baylor and Va Tech lose).
Stanford does not play a CCG. The Big 10 doesn't play a CCG. LSU likely won't play a CCG. Auburn still has Georgia, Alabama, and their CCG.

I don't forsee Oregon losing but in the words of Tom Osborne "you need a little luck to win the National Championship". Did they already have that "luck" game against Ariz St earlier or is it yet to come?

Worst case scenario for Nebraska (outside of losing another) is having to play Okie St again in the CCG. Nebraska won't get credit for beating them twice. Nebraska still needs Oklahoma to win out, have Missouri win out and Oklahoma St only lose to Oklahoma.

If Auburn or Oregon lose this is going to be extremely close, as the computer element is 1/3 of the BCS formula.

Auburn holds the key to Nebraska getting in the back door.
Root for Auburn to lose "only one" of their last 2 regular season games (@ Alabama?), and/or their CCG.

If that happens, any of the following will help NU..

Root for Oregon St, Baylor, and Va Tech to lose. (to continue weakening Boise and TCU's sos)
Root for Notre Dame to beat Utah this weekend. (TCU beat Utah)
Root for Arkansas to beat LSU to end the regular season.
Root for Stanford to lose (@ Ariz St or @ Cal, yet beat Oregon St)
Root for Wisconsin to lose (Indiana, @ Michigan, N'Western remaining)
Root for Ohio St to lose (Penn St, @ Iowa, Michigan remaining)
Root for Michigan St to lose (Purdue, @ Penn St remaining)

It is a bummer to drop but it does not matter much yet. At least we got a win with week. We really need Martinez back.

If anyone hadn't noticed I am conceding the #1 spot to Oregon. The reason is Nebraska only need be #2 to play in the National Championship.

If Oregon St were to upset Oregon it would help TCU and Boise's strength of schedule. Strength of schedule is where Nebraska can overcome the humans against those 2 undefeated non AQ's in the computers.

If you were to reverse scenarios and Auburn wins out (#1)..The TCU and Boise wins against Oregon St would add to their strength of schedules and possibly give either of them enough for the #2 spot.
