I went to the Padres opener yesterday and Giants rewarded my fan-dom with a bed-shitting performance. Even the first inning, when they small-balled themselves into the lead, it was ugly, with Huff first-pitch swinging his ground ball to score Torres.

I am really starting to worry about Panda. He looked at the first 6 pitches he faced, than became the Panda we all know and, um, well the Panda we all know. It is early, and maybe I am knee-jerking a bit here, but I wonder if the '10 Panda is closer to the real Panda than the '09 version. Sad, because he has all the talent in the world. His defense is perplexing as well. Dude is empty between the ears.

I arrived about 2 hours before first pitch to catch the Giants BP. I was standing by the foul pole in right and watched Timmeh and Zeets shag flys in the OF for most of the session. We yelled to Timmeh to toss a few balls and he looked over at us went out of his way to toss a few balls to the kids in our area. He seemed to be having a lot of fun out there and he went around tossing balls to a lot of kids along the OF seats. Zeets was a different story. He refused to acknowledge anyone yelling his name, even though most of us were decked out in out Giants barb. He never once through a single ball to the stands.

Gardner was also shagging some flys and he also ignored the fans. I tried to get his attention to thank him for last year, but he never looked my way. Interesting.

I was disappointed with the Giants fans' showing at the game. I was expecting about a 30 - 35% showing, but we had, at most, a 10% showing. No chants either. It was sad.

Does anyone seriously think Panda will ever touch those 2009 numbers again, for a whole season? I think it's impossible, and have said so many times.

He can reasonably improve on 2010, but 2009 will never happen again for him. Heck, 2009 Panda's #s would be great for almost anyone in the league, and about as rare.

I flew to Chi-Town last season to watch the Giants play the Cubbies and hung out with CLARKS (remember him from the ESPN days?) all day. Then we went to the game. Sanchez was pitching and Timmeh and Zeets were again in the OF shagging flies before the game. While standing in the bleachers, I watched as Zito tossed many a ball to the hot chick while giving a sly smile to them. A bit pissed off at this, I screamed at him, "Hey Zito, I traveled 1,500 miles to watch the Giants play! I have been here for an hour now and gotten nothing. How about tossing a ball to a Giants fan, huh?"

Zito eventually got himself a baseball, turned, and flung the ball right at me. He smiled and waved, then went about his business. I guess you caught him on a bad day, cal, because he was cool to me.
