It's the only instance I can think of where the trophy is more than just a symbol of the championship; it's the goal of the championship. I mean, in every sport, the winning players are obviously excited when the final buzzer sounds. But the Stanley Cup is the only trophy that the players stand around waiting, one at a time, to carry around the ice. Or take home for a day.

It's so awesome. Other sports suck (especially national ones that tack a "world" moniker onto their championship).

I dont know about the NBA, but definetly the NFL and I think the MLB make a new trophy every year.

I had no idea each player got a "mini" version of the Cup. That's a nice mantle piece! I don't know how I wouldn't have heard that over the years... oh right... Caps' fan.

This is what I was thinking too. You always hear a football player say they want to win a Super Bowl, but they never say we're gonna win the Lombardi Trophy this year. Same think in basketball and baseball.

But in the NHL you'll never hear them say we're gonna win an NHL championship.

It's all about the Cup.
