I don't think I've ever been described as a "hipster" before......
Wow, life sucks.
When I was a teenager, I meant a man at church - he was an undercover narcotics officer. He stood out so much because he had very long hair, and unkept shaggy beard and his clothes were dirty. Since that time he has been in various positions with the Benton Country (Washington) Sheriff's Department. He mentored teenagers, and a positive force in the community. He and his family lived in my hometown and his wife and kids were always wonderful people.
He was found Saturday under a tree at his home, an apparent suicide. I am still trying to wrap my head around it, his family must be going through much worse. I may be off for a while, if my time come up, text me.
All the Backstreet Boys could sing...1 great song (Come Together) and a few good songs doesn't make an all time great. They're nothing more than the 60's Backstreet Boys.
Never liked Helter Skelter - and it has nothing to do with Charles Manson.
Here, my Beatles top 10:
1. Come Together
2. Can't Buy Me Love
3. Back in the U.S.S.R.
4. Hard Day's Night
5. All My Loving
6. I Want to Hold Your Hand
7. Help!
8. Hey, Jude
9. We Can Work It Out
10. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
At least this is the top 10 of the 60 songs of their's that I have on my computer (and the only ones I really like enough to listen to more than just every once in a while).
Has anyone mentioned how Paul McCartney starred in Murder, She Wrote?
I have the urge to bring up Dylan right now, but I'm obviously trolling, so I'll save it for later.
I saw him live a few years ago. One of the better shows I've ever been to. Best 50 bucks I've ever spent.
I'm not a huge fan of the Beatles relative to a lot of the other classic rock greats but I still like it. Its hard to really judge the impact of a song like Hey Jude because so many bands were influenced by these songs. The problem the younger generation has with the Beatles is that they seem to have influenced everything so they no longer stand out. It'd be like if the first NBA player to dunk did every dunk there was to do and then walked off. The people seeing it for the first time would totally crap themselves but nowadays everyone dunks. Thats the Beatles legacy as far as I can tell.I like when people judge history with a future's mind.
The Beatles grabbed the world by the balls, before it even knew it had balls. They started out as a 50's bubble gum pop band (that STILL wrote great songs, mind you) and evolved right in front of our eyes, into a deep and talented progressive rock band. What they did will never happen again. There will be plenty of teen sensations, but none that will transcend that age group. Everyone likes the Beatles.
Except for "edgy" new-age, hipsters that think they were just a pop band, instead of the INVENTORS of it.
Sorry. I have a few rules in life. One is never trust someone that dislikes the Beatles. It's weird.
Hendrix gets screwed by the sands of time more than anyone imo.
My head would've exploded hearing him for the first time.
My vote would go to Elvis Presley because I get Hendrix. Elvis is something that will look more and more absurd as the years go.Hendrix gets screwed by the sands of time more than anyone imo.
