Problem with those guys is even if they are the better WR, they cost less money so easier to justify cutting.

Would be interesting if coaches could set their 52 each year based on blurry video and anonymous stats, so they can't tell who the player is and just how well they are actually playing. I'd imagine we would see veterans dogging it a lot less, and probably more of them cut when they are clearly outperformed by some young kid.

In the real world "younger and cheaper" wins out 99% of the time. Not in sports though. :)

Agree. Let's see what we have. Butler should play a bigger role this year and with a healthy Dez our receivers should be OK. If not we pick one off the scrap heap down the road

Let's see what we have is right. I believe the reason the Cowboys drafted Elliott and Smith is that they believe they are fine on the DLine and secondary
They need Tyrone Crawford to step up, but he's flashed. Cedric Thornton is a good player. David Irving really looked like he could be a player. They think Rod can do a lot with Benson Mayowa. Add in Maliek Collins and Charles Tapper. Then in week 4, get back Gregory and Lawrence. That's 8 pretty damn talented young guys IMO. Secondary, we have Scandrick coming back, BJones should be even better, plus 5 other guy's who have started for us. All we need is to not be decimated by injuries again

The only think I'd call out is that we HOPE we get those two back after week4. They are going to have a lot of free time on their hands, and a lot of empty space between their ears.

I agree they could be good, but I think if we had a stud pass rusher moving everyone back one spot in the pecking order our DL could be great.

Who knows who we might grab when the cuts start later this season. But yes barring the injury monster it looks good.

Cowboys WR Terrance Williams Could Be In Line For Big Payday, But It May Come From Another Team
Nate Bouda 14 mins ago Cowboys 0 Comments

Todd Archer of ESPN writes that while Cowboys WR Terrance Williams appears to be in line for a big pay day at some point, it could end up coming from another team.

According to Archer, it doesn’t sound like there have been any contract talks between Williams’ camp and the Cowboys up to this point regarding a long-term contract extension.

While Dallas typically tries to retain their free agents to-be, the recent contracts signed by Jaguars WR Allen Hurns and Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu could complicate the situation. Hurns walked away with a four-year, $40 million extension with $20 million guaranteed while Sanu managed to secure a five-year $32.5 million contract with $14 million guaranteed from Atlanta as a free agent.

Should Williams test the open market next year, he could very well push for $10 million per year in his contract much like Hurns got from the Jaguars.

Archer wonders if the Cowboys can afford to add another large contract to their offense, especially after they’ve locked up players Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and Tyron Smith in recent years.

Williams, 26, is a former third-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2013. He’s currently in the final year of his rookie contract and stands to make base salary of $1.686 million for the 2016 season before testing the market as an unrestricted free agent in 2017.

In 2015, Williams appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and recorded 52 receptions for 840 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 50 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.

Dear Lord. Did Archer actually just write that? I have two words for Williams at any salary if he doesn't step it up this year: Good Bye

No chance he gets $10M per year. If he does it is because the deal is like "5yr $50M...$8M in year one and only one year guaranteed". Sanu's contract is not even for $8M a year, but Williams has better numbers. Who is going to give a clear #2 $10M a year? Williams is opposite a top 5 WR in the NFL and can't bust 1000 yards.

I think the point is someone will pay that kinda cash.

The money will end up ruining the game. Fuck expanding rosters, we'll just pay second tier players 10/15 mil a year and pick guys off the street when the injuries mount. Matters if it's 200 mil....it will just be divided by 53.

Pretty much along the same lines I was thinking, he gets anywhere close to that and someone has lost their mind

Williams and his agent better not ask for any of those numbers from us. He is a role player and when given the opportunity to showcase himself last year, he failed. If the Cowboys wouldn't overpay '14 team MVP D.Murray, he better realize he is further down the food chain.

If he gets 10M let him get it elsewhere, he's a number 2 and thats about it. I had hopes he'd be able to play as 1 for a game or two but last year he did himself no favors. Not saying kick him to the curb, but I cant see paying him that money when a good rookie can fill in as a two for a lot less money.
