They want their fans to make it to the game and not freeze to death outside. They want them to do that in the Stadium.

60% of the people going to the game are too pussyfied to tailgate anyway. (e.g corporate, Hollywood, V.I.P. shill) New York completely dropped the ball on this one.

How Un-American.

I agree with the "memorable games" point (to an extent) and the "fluffy bullshit" point, but how does having the Super Bowl in a warm climate make it not about the game?

It doesn't. But football is played in a variety of weather conditions. So it is only natural that SOME of the Superbowls are played in a colder climate.

Not a big deal

I've only been to 1 SB (in Tampa and only because I was living there at the time) and it was a good experience as I had a few connections for some of the festivities that the power people typically are invited to

The game day itself...it's not the same as a regular football game imo...there was tail gating, but the hardcore, true fans of the participants I didn't see many, mostly corp tents.

The point here is the SB is not really meant for the regular fan...it's a spectacle. Doubtful there will be another northern city SB in a while, but they had to honor their promise I suppose for these teams/ cities building new stadiums.

No tailgating is lame. So is a freezing cold outdoor SB. Seems like an incentive for new stadiums though. Hosting the game that is. Doubt we see another NY/NJ held Super Bowl for decades. If it were ever to be in one location, Id pick New Orleans. But it won't be in one location so my pick is rather pointless.

Personally I don't ever think the game should be played in a dome. Now if New Orleans want's to build a new stadium opposed to a dome I think that is a great idea.

I've never been to a SuperBowl, not even when Detroit hosted a few years back. But I've only heard good things on how NO does things. The city is prepared to host guests in the first place and has seemed more than down to party in the short periods of time I've been there. I hear you on Domes. Football is an outdoor sport, meant for playing on grass. Wish more indoor facilities would go the route that Arizona did. (New Orleans did host three OUTDOOR SBs in the past... Tulane Stadium is prolly past her prime these days). Not gonna lie though, a little happy ill be indoors at Ford Field when I go later this week. This freezing rain is no fun.

I have been to the last two Superbowls in AZ and it is not like the regular season or playoff games. It is a corporate monstrosity. It's Hollywood and that will never change. Being as such, they have to cater to what it is. If i'm gong to sit through millions of corporate/Hollywood types, I want to do it in a reasonable climate.

the SB needed media coverage when the NFL was a second tier sport to baseball. The big media events, the big media names...everything needed to be perfect to butter up those guys to make them want to come to the game and hype it up.

The time has passed for the "need" to have a warm weather SB. I just hope it isn't in NY/NJ again because the whole Mara family are dickholes who should have their own level of hell reserved just for them.

I expect these types of restrictions are going to leak to probably every NFL stadium eventually. Times are a changing.

I agree that a cold super bowl sucks for fans but should be mandatory for the teams but no tailgating is a catastrophe.

Every tail gate party is a superbowl for fans. You plan, prep, cook and then hopefully for 3 hours you tailgate. Sure some slack it and half ass it like so many shitty teams in the NFL do but they still show up, just like those shitty NFL teams.

They give a reason?

It can be in a warm climate, it just doesn't always need to be and the reasons against it going to northern climates is all about the fluff. The fans of football will pack those seats and they will enjoy the hell out of that game. They will tailgate and do all the things fans do.

But they don't, because the fluff has become too important. It's not about the game, it's about their sponsors that want to spend a few hundred thousand entertaining business clients and oh BTW, there will be a game on too.
