Is 4 first round picks too much of a price to pay? Or is it more a case of it being a waste of time because the Bolts will match any offer sheet presented?

I think it's the latter.

with everyone getting $4m extra cap space, there's few teams right up against the wall like in the past couple of years.
Unless you are making a retarded offer (Penner), you need the combo of a sought out RFA and a team that will have trouble matching for a successful grab.

I agree, Yzerman has said he will match any offer and I doubt he's just posturing. I think some teams may also be a bit hesitant to even try an offer sheet knowing that Stamkos is seemingly unwilling to play in TB a team who almost made it to the SCF this past year.

The only way I see Stamkos playing elsewhere is through a trade and it will be a HUGE trade. In the end TB will win out as the price to acquire Stamkos will probably be a proven star, a top quality prospect and at least 1(prob 2) 1st rounders.

I do however think that Stamkos has handcuffed Yzerman a bit since he can dictate where he will be willing to sign and at this point I'm sure most(if not all teams) are not willing to talk trade until they can at the very least talk to the Stamkos trade to camp to see if they would be a desired destination.

IDK but 4 first round picks is a hell of a lot to give up. Unless you are dead nuts positive this guy is a super star. JMO

Unless you are a basement team, I'd give up four first rounders in a heartbeat. Stamkos is a very rare player, the odds that you are going to get anyone like him are slim.

Have there been rumblings out of Tampa that he doesn't want to stay on the Lightning? I know it's been taking a while to get the deal done, but this isn't the first time a big name RFA took a while to hash out a deal.

How about a four player swap? Stamkos to NJ, Parise to Nashville, Weber to LA, and Doughty to the Bolts?

Doughty to Tampa?
Noooo thank you.

The prospect of facing a Hedman/Doughty pairing 6 times a year?

Maybe because 2/3 of the people in Tampa don't have a clue as to who is on those billboards

If you look over the history of these things it is generally frowned upon by all of the GM's to hand a offer on a restricted player.

I personally would give 4 1st round picks and my left nut sack to see Stamkos in a B's uniform.

So do you have four balls, two for each nut sack? Or one nut sack for each nut?

That's the upshot though isn't it. All the other GM's in the league know Tampa will match any offer sheet. So signing him to one with that knowledge will only make that GM look like a dirtbag around the league and seriously hurt his trading possibilities down the road.

Just ask Kevin Lowe.
