Looks like the Bengals are resigning DT Devon Still for a year.

So that now gives us 4 DT's (Atkins, Peko, Thompson, Still), with 2 rotational DT's (Gilberry, Hunt).

I have to imagine, we are now not going to go DT at all in the draft. We probably could still, but more than likely if we do it will be a later pick in the draft.

OT and LB is now the biggest need on the team, and there is more quality in the first round for OT than LB, so I anticipate us going OT now if one of the top 5 are on the board.

I'd pick a QB if I were them.

There's no guarantee that he makes the team though.... Doesn't hurt us to sign him now and have him with the club during the spring. We cut him last year -- We'd do it again if we had a draft pick that was better.

And I still think DT would be a priority if a good one slipped. Peko is not good (he'll be here for ever regardless), Atkins has to prove his knee is better, Thompson is a serviceable rotation guy and Still has been a disappointment. The other two guys are not really tackles, but can play tackle in obvious passing situations. I think the team has to take one if they get a highly ranked guy handed to them.

We cut Still to put him on practice squad, knowing no one else would probably pick him up. We signed him one more year, and you can guarantee with everything they have done for him, for his daughter, and their willingness to show loyalty to guys, that they will not cut him, but rather give him a full year to prove he belongs on a football field again with a daughter who is not dying anymore.

I think you need to start sucking it up and realize the picture that is sitting in front of you. We have our defensive line for the year. They will justify that Johnson by himself will make this line better, and with Atkins now a year away from injury, his stats should improve as well.

#1 - OT Ereck Flowers
#2 - WR Phillip Dorsett
#3 - FS Gerod Holliman (frees up the money Nelson will be expecting next year)
#3 - LB Denzel Perryman

I read a Hobs article where he believes that CB, T and DT are the likely choices in the 1st round. I will be absolutely livid if we take another goddamn CB (punt gunner) in the 1st. Sadly, I have little doubt they would do something like that.

In a pass happy league, where Dre Kirkpatrick has had 3 games of good play, Adam Jones has a tendency to get burnt from time to time, Hall who is running on two robotic feet, and Dennard, while I think may be the best CB we have on our team, never got to prove anything last year. Plus, Jones and Hall are closing out their careers, so, if best available player on the board is a CB, I can still see it.

I disagree.... The Bengals are loyal, but they will cut Still if he can't help this year. And even if they don't, I wouldn't be surprised to see them draft a guy high. 5 tackles would not be a lot to carry - Especially if one were inactive on game day.

I am not as optimistic about our chances as you are.

Still isn't very good, but if he had a bad kidney, a broken leg, a heart murmur and a migraine he'd still get out there and play and tell the coaches nothing is wrong.

the other DTs aren't going to do that.

so, we go to war with what we got.

and we come out of the playoffs after 1 round.

it's what we do.

believe!

Did I see they were looking to bring back Pat Simms? Thought I saw that, but I've been out of the loop....

Was free agency that depleted that we have to sign peko.

wasn't he painful to watch last season?

looking at this list of free agent DT, he wasn't even listed in the top 52 free agent DTs

WalterFootball.com: 2015 NFL Free Agents - Defensive Tackles

I'm starting to wonder if anyone in the Bengals front office actually watches the games while sober... but I guess that's the key to sanity around here. bwhahahahahahahaha.

He is a club house leader they will say, and you can't put a price on a veteran leader who commands the respect of his teammates and peers. *rolls eyes*

It is what it is man. Maybe we can sign Tim Tebow to take over at DT for us. :)

I didn't realize that. that just boggles my mind that they reworked the contract of a player that by every other consensus was near the worst at his position in the NFL.

Zimmer signed Taylor Mays, so there must be something left in our worthless players as opposing teams are signing them.

Just signed Pat Simms. Good thing we didn't ship those rings to the Vikings just yet!
