For the second day in a row the NHL missed a chance to have a great game televised.

Yesterday, Det/Pho played at 10:00, Buf/Phi at 2:00, and Bos/Mtl at 4:00. Because Versus wanted to show Bos/Mtl they didnt show the Buf/Phi game.

Today they made the same mistake-Was/NY at 11, Nsh/Ana at 3, Chi/Van at 5. Because Versus wants to show the Chi/Van game they did not show the Nsh/Ana game.

Why didnt the NHL just schedule both the Bos/Mtl and Nsh/Ana games an hour earlier and air them on Versus (or at least NHLN)? They turned out to be two of the best games so far these playoffs, and were nowhere to be found outside of their local markets. Seems sloppy to me.

They just play the numbers and hope...sure those are the games people who love hockey want to see, but chances are that most of your every day viewers only tune in when big name players or big name cities are involved. Nsh/Ana will get very little exposure.

Very hard hitting, and some great offensive players as well. Rinne v. the Ducks front men, and the Ducks offense v. a very good Nashville D. I love watching Nashville play.

**selfish homer alert**

the real TV question to me is why are the flyers/sabres only scheduled for national tv twice? starting wednesday its in favor of the caps/rangers, which i guess i understand, except for the fact that the caps/rangers get 2 days off here when the flyers/sabres don't get any 2 day breaks

furthermore, a re-post from myself about the amount of breaks and distances traveled that seems to fit nicely here..

[flyers/sabres] is the only series that plays every other night for the duration.. ana/nash and la/sj get one 2-day break, everyone else gets two 2-day breaks

Distances if you think it's travel related:

DC/NY = 225 miles
LA/SJ = 306 miles
Bos/MTL = 313 miles
Buff/Phil = 377 miles
Pitt/TB = 1,027 miles
Pho/Det = 1,994 miles
Ana/Nash = 1,997 miles
Van/Chi = 2,198 miles

*all distances courtesy of google maps

why mix up when the games are played and not have all the teams that play on the same night, keep playing on the same night, so that you can balance the coverage, instead of having the caps/rangers and flyers/sabres move to the same night half-way through

and that doesn't even bring up the 'fairness' question of 2 teams having to play every other night, while others get multiple breaks

Wow I didn't realize that awaz. Interesting esp seeing how physical the Sabres V Flyers series has been.

Flyers/Sabres will either match up with Mtl/Bos or Was/NY... Versus would choose either of the other two series first.

As far as the 2 day break... not sure why this series does not have one, but if anything it gives the winner an extra day or rest before round 2.

Pens/TBL series only has 2 nationally televised games as well. I get it though...no Sid=no TV. Honestly, if the games hadn't already been scheduled, I guarantee you every nationally televised game after the Malkin injury would've been taken away.

i guess the first part is true.. they would want to keep mtl/bos and was/ny away from each other so they could televise both of those, i guess that's fair, if they had to play at the same time.. but like you said at the top, days like today and yesterday, 1 hr of change and they could've showed both.. if the mtl/bos game had an 8pm start instead of 7 yesterday they could've had both.. and it really doesn't make sense for Versus at all, because regardless of how philly/buff competes in the NHL for coverage, i promise you it will beat out bull riding or bass fishing, which are the other Versus options for 5pm on a saturday

and as far as getting an extra day of rest before the next round, i guess that's true, but they will still be a day-off short of every eastern team in the 2nd round.. every other series has two 2-day breaks, and ends 1 day after the flyers/sabres series

ya, i guess i'm just surprised because philly is normally a really big draw for the NHL, and as far as ratings go buffalo is near, if not at, the top every year in local ratings
