Wow, wasn't it only expected to go up $900K?

The players must have activated the 5% escalator...The struggling teams don't like this news, however, as they're having trouble reaching the cap floor. Does Gary need permission from the other 29 teams before opening up the wallet for Phoenix?

that is what was expected. 2 mil. hopefully homer pulls the trigger on the rumor that hamhuis wants a 4 year 16 mil deal.

Just a hunch Scott, but I'm guessing Hamhuis will sign either a 4 year - $18mil or a 5 year - $20mil deal.

I'd love it if DWil could get either Paul Martin or Zbynek Michalek. I'd be even more pleased if he could grab Hjalmarsson as well ;-)~.....and while we're dreaming, resign Marleau for 6 years at a cap friendly $5.5mil average.....maybe something like $8m, $7m, $6m, $5m, $4m, $3m.

Ah.....dreaming is nice eh?

To think that we lost an entire year of hockey because the league was unwilling to accept a $45 million hard cap put forward by Bob Goodenow.

why a 4 year 18 mil deal? according to csnphilly.com his agent wants 4 years at 16 mil which is 4 mil a year.

That was just a hunch given what I figured his market value would be. I didn't know that his agent was only seeking $4mil per for that term. I had no facts to back it up, just was guessing.

Vancouver GM Gillis' response is, "We'll look and see if we should use up this cap space, but, I like to leave myself millions freed up for the trade deadline....and then do nothing with it".

well now the flyers are about 10 mil under the cap instead of 8 mil. that means if hamhuis signs for 4, coburn signs for 2.8, carcillo and powe sign for about 1.5 combined, that leaves them 1.7 under the cap to sign a goalie. i am guessing they are still going to trade a forward to make more room.

CapGeek.com - NHL salary cap calculator, buyout calculator, free agents and more!

want a good laugh (if you're not a chitown fan??)? go here. wow. they're screwed. just under 2 mill in space...with 14 roster players. in contrast, the caps have 14 roster players signed, and 15mil in space, the pens have 18 roster players and 11mil in space. YIKES!

I know your team already has it's cups Pix, but I'd LOVE to be in the same position as the Hawks this offseason if it meant a Stanley Cup :-)
