Shouldn't have been a penalty in the first place, it was an unfortunate hit but Gordon dropped down to his knees as Muzzin was about to initiate contact. I have no idea what that ref saw, the only way that is a deliberate intent to injure/head target is if Muzzin is a midget.
It's important because on the ensuing major PP and then Martinez with the bonehead delay of game penalty, the Coyotes don't get the PP goals and essentially an unearned point because they tied it up and went to OT. In the end the Kings got their 2, but would have been nice to give the Dogs none.
I was hoping to see Captain Bitchboy lose his shit again but alas, no Christmas present for me.
Looks like I'm not the only one who thought the refs were out of control and essentially gave the Coyotes a point. Sutter is normally vague, slaps backhanded jabs or is nonchalant about officiating and what not but not here, pretty blunt if you ask me:
Meanwhile, Sutter continued to be irked by the match penalty call on defenseman Jake Muzzin in the third period of Saturday’s game. The Kings eventually won, 4-3, in overtime.
“We got screwed,” Sutter said. “For lack of a better word. … It’s a bad call. It’s exactly what I said. They [the Coyotes] got a point because of a bad call.
“The three biggest things that affect making the playoffs: scheduling, injuries and officiating. We got all three last game.”
The officiating was a joke Saturday. Not just for LA but for the Coyotes too, it's almost like they were cops and needed to hit their monthly quota or something being the end of the month.
