Not surprised at all with the price and him staying with the Wild.
admittedly don't watch a lot a Wild games, but thought he was at a bit higher level that $900k.

maybe years of watching my GM sign 4th liners to multi-year 3-4mill deals has skewed my viewpoint

I am going off him totally disappearing in Pittsburgh, but I think he was better for the Wild.

Or read another way, Eichel, Reinhart and Ristolainen are as good as gone.

Combined almost 1,400 games played w/o sniffing the playoffs, might be a necessary evil for those players to start fresh elsewhere.

vs

Just under 400 combined games played for Cozens, Dahlin and Mittelstadt...they are still bright-eyed and bushy tailed. Give it a few years with the rinse and repeat.

When do buyouts happen? After expansion draft?

The buyout window opens 48 hours after the cup is awarded and runs to July 27.

$8.25MM cap hit over the next three years.

a) limits the trade market significantly
b) woof
Revised:

Korpisalo for Jake, Wisdom, Frost and Farabee and a first.

Also a crowded market for those kinds of deals - TB is most likely going to try and trade Stamkos and even with the injuries he probably has more cache than Voracek to prospective buyers. SJ has to be trying to trade one of their overpaid d-men. Washington seems hellbent on getting rid of Kuznetsov and even though he's definitely talented I doubt all the noise coming out of that room about him last season went unheard (unrelated but they probably would like to move on from Oshie, too). AZ's still wants to move OEL.

That is a lot of contract mistakes to try and dump in one summer with a flat cap. Even if GM's don't overdo the stupid this time around with the expansion draft there's enough above for them to still fill Francis' pockets with valuable assets and put a playoff team together before free agency comes into play.

Elliotte just mentioned on Donnie and Dhali that he thinks it's Caleb Jones and a pick going back to the Hawks for Keith. Not sure about salary retention.
