I'm happy for Darkstone and for hockey fans of Phoenix. As for Winnipeg hockey fans, it's still looking good that Atlanta will come coming.

I wish I could remember who said it, but someone mentioned that if they lived in Winnipeg they'd rather have the Thrashers than the Coyotes anyway, which was something I agree with. Some good young talent on that Thrashers team.

No complaints about Atlanta moving, but does anyone really know why the NHL put in such an effort to keep Ponicks in the league but they don't give two shits about Atlanta? I mean really, why? Ponicks is a team that's always had bad attendance even when they made the playoffs (think back to the early years) and the only reason they sold out the playoff games the last two years is because of Wings fans. The building was half full with them. Atlanta has had no success, no playoff wins and yet still outdraws Ponicks. I don't get it at all.

On the bright side, we'll get to make fun of their crappy attendance for at least one more year and I'm sure DGB and places like that will come up with some more hilarity as well.

Ponicks lost 36 million this season with an average attendance of approximately 12,000 - If they drew an additional 5,000 fans per home game and each fan paid an average of $75 per ticket, that would amount to $15,375,000 (let's be generous though and round it up to 16 million). I doubt they could manage to do that, but even if they could, they would still lose 20 million dollars.

I think a pretty savvy hockey guy said that (wait a minute, it was me).

Why are they fighting for this? Just astounds me. It seems as if they're merely delaying the inevitable.

I don't get it either. Why would the other owners go along with this?

In Phoenix they won't make money. They have a good team in a good building (tough location isn't a good enough excuse, sorry) and are losing money. It just won't cut it. Sorry, but when the team starts becoming successful on the ice is when fans should start showing up. Call it bandwagonism if you'd like, but it's shown to be an effective way of getting money, right? Worked in cities like Washington, Pittsburgh, Chicago...they do lack star power you could say, but they shouldn't have such a low attendance record. That just shows lack of interest. Let it go Gary, don't be proud.

To me, this whole situation and the motives behind it are all pretty clear by now. Phoenix in no way shape or form deserves a hockey team. The saddest thing is, the NHL and Gary Bettman know this. The team itself in this case is irrelevant. The only thing that greedy corrupt weasel Bettman cares about in this situation is that television market in Arizona, which I believe is the 5th largest in North America.

Gary has the image to me of a man who thinks himself to be a white knight, riding on his golden stallion bringing hockey to areas that are non traditional. Losing a team in Phoenix is such a massive blow to his ego, he will die trying to save it even though everyone knows it doesn't work. He would even threaten any team or owner that refuses to help pay to keep them alive I truly believe.

At this point, I kind of hope they do stay there next year. Bryzgalov is likely going to bolt for FA this summer, leaving them Yotes without their best player. If they fall back into mediocrity, attendance will go back to barely over 10k a game, they will lose close to 50 million dollars, all the while, Bettman continues to justify why hockey works in Phoenix. The icing on the cake would be if the Thrashers move to Winnipeg, he would have nowhere to move the Yotes to.

I just hope team like the Leafs and other revenue sharing club will eventually have the balls to tell Gary to pay the Ponicks bills himself, because I am getting sick of my team propping up this horrible franchise.

The big name owners will eventually be fed up with this crap (especially if ATL ends up staying as well). It's going to take a joint effort though from the big teams like Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Chicago, Philly, Pittsburgh, etc. You get the idea.
