I'm still surprised that the Habs have started out of the gate running just like they did last year, and that in last place you have the Yotes (thought they were going to be much better), and Suban's Preds. Kudos to Edmonton who looks to maybe finally have a team to contend for the playoffs.

Still early though.

Yotes and Predators don't have good goalies. Montreal and Edmonton (right now) do.

And thus is how to build a winner, unless you play for the Canucks apparently.

Rinne isn't a bad goalie by any stretch of the imagination. From what I've heard out of Nashville, the chemistry is messed up and Fischer had to go to ownership and discuss the problems Subban is causing.

If that's all true, the Habs look like geniuses.

.906 sv%, which is following up from his .908 last year.

Aside from his 2014-15 season (after which he stunk it up in the playoffs) Rinne's been pretty average since 2013.

Preds as a whole are having some troubles getting it going, for sure, but when you're burning $7 mil in cap space on starting goaltending you'd like save percentages to be closer to .920 than .900.

Also, the Habs are giving up 2 more shots per game so far despite getting rid of "defensive liability" PK Subban and adding "toughest guy in NHL to play against" Shea Weber, so...

But it sounds like PK could be tough in the locker room. All speculation though.

Since the Thrashers left, I moved onto the Blackhawks since I grew up a White Sox (Frank Thomas really) fan.

Don't tempt the bear. Don't tempt the bear.

I probably know why, but shouldn't NBCSN being showing McJesus versus Matthews tonight?

And since they are playing tonight, time for another of my pet peeves.

Why do the announcers always call him "Connor Brown"? Never "Brown", always "Connor Brown". Almost as annoying as "18 year old Sam Bennett".

They do this to Pekka Rinne also. Its always "Pekka Rinne", never "Rinne". So much so that I once mentioned "Rinne" to my wife and she said who? When I said "you know, Pekka Rinne", she said ohhhhhh, him.

/then again, the only other player my wife knows is "Chara". And now "Matthews". She actually called him "Connor Matthews" on Saturday. #whatchagonnado

Preds getting in on Halak wouldn't shock me, although they probably are in bigger need of some top 6 scoring.

Grabbing Halak and having him split duties with Rinne (or even take over) gives the Preds some time - they're really high on Juuse Saros and maybe by the end of next season he's ready to step in and take half the workload.

When they call him Brown it reminds me of Mike Brown lol.

Halak = sieve. Just look at this goal he let up on Malkin the other night. Brutal.

I think the amount of games that Rinne has played over the past few seasons combined with the hip surgery he had all means that there's not much tread left on those goalie's tires.

Flames can't knock off the Hawks twice in a week at the Madhouse on Madison, can they?

I'm pretty sure the Ducks/Kings game is going to a shootout tied at 0.

Yes, ignore De Haan getting dummied by Kessel and Seidenberg not only screening Halak but letting Geno have his way with him.

Halak has been bad but when not one of your three defensive pairings are in positive possession territory that's probably your bigger problem.

Also of note is that this will be Tkachuk's 9th game tonight for the Flames - I think he'll be staying up with the big club and likely burning his first year of his ELC. The bigger number these days it seems is the 39 game threshold and taking a year off his UFA status.
