Your either blind or the biggest hater on the board if you couldn't tell Keuchley had Gronk wrapped up and was pushing him through the endzone. Maybe you should make better use of your time trying to talk Big Ben out of banging teenagers.

I've already admitted that Keuchley had him wrapped up. Already said that.

Gronks momentum, independent of that, was STILL taking him out of the endzone and away from the ball - which Gronk would have had to have been diving forward to catch anyway.

There's no way he makes that grab.

Chew on this....

She does a great job explaining why it could have been called PI or nothing at all - and then brakes down how HIS MOMENTUM is already going backwards out of the endzone. There's no way he stops that momentum on a dime, dives for the ball and grabs it ahead of the man that intercepted it.

If you believe otherwise, you're a homer.

Fwiw, I think the ref should have kept the flag in his pocket like they do on every other last play of the game desperation pass into the end zone... but...

I understand why it could not have been illegal contact by rule.
I understand why PI was waved off due to the pass being deemed uncatchable.

What I don't understand is why it could not have been defensive holding "because the ball was in the air". I've heard this said and seen it posted but I can't find this exception in any online rules source I can find and I've never heard of it before. Not saying it isn't true, but does anyone have a link to the NFL rules where this is explicitly stated (not just some talking head saying it) ?

So, I guess that video kinda shut up those that think it was PI.

End thread.

And damn sure should.

Now that this is settled can we get 9er fans to admit the Brees hit was high? The fine sure indicates the league thinks so.

Because defensive holding while the ball is in the air = pass interference.

Prior to the pass being thrown you're just preventing him from running his route, once the ball is in the air you're keeping him from getting to the ball.

I didn't see Gronk make much of an effort to work back towards the ball. It looked to me that his momentum carried him towards the back of the end zone moreso than any contact from Keuchly. I think it was a good no call.

Loo closer at this play. It does appear Gronk is trying to get back to the ball... But barely... Which we get the benefit of the slow replay.

again.... I mentioned the reasons why the Patriots lost this game earlier and it was NOT because of this non call

And I don't think it was PI but Holding... But I can't tell when the ball left Brady's hands compared to when the holding accured

Apologies but did you not see the video I posted where the woman broke it down for you?

It was either PI or nothing and since the ball was not catch able, and she broke that down as well, there was no PI.

No I did not. I will admit I came into this thread late and only say the video I was referring too. i get both sides to the argument and again the Patriots did not lose because of this....

She does a great job of explaining why it was PI or nothing as well as how it was impossible for Gronk to catch the ball had he not been hugged.

They lost because Ridley fumbled the ball on the 10 yard line in the 2nd quarter. If nothing else the Pats would have kicked a field goal on that drive and kicked another on the last drive of the game for the win.

Some of you Pats fans are amazing...

Terrell Suggs falls at Brady's feet - Brady calls for a the flag which the ref still had in his pocket - and you think the call is righteous. .

Terrell Suggs was in control (yup) of his body and dove at Brady's freshly operated on knee. PUNK MOVE

Because defensive holding while the ball is in the air = pass interference.

Prior to the pass being thrown you're just preventing him from running his route, once the ball is in the air you're keeping him from getting to the ball.

Defensive holding <> pass interference. They're not the same thing. They're 2 different penalties. Sometimes PI is a defensive hold but many times it's not. It can be a push or a trip or just about any sort of contact. It's been stated that once the ball is in the air there's no such thing as defensive holding and I'd like to see where it says that in the rule book. Because this suggests, for instance, had this not been the last play of the game and/or not in the end zone and the ball was about to be intercepted by Lester that Kuechly would be allowed to just grab and hold onto Gronk while that was taking place. This doesn't seem right to me. But if the rules call for it I'd like to see it. So with all due respect I don't need to see the video where "she breaks it down" again, but a link to the actual rule definition where it states that there's no D holding when the ball is in the air.

Yep I posted that on this thread (very similiar to this)... 3rd and 1 and they throw... terrible... it was not a loss on this play at all!

He literally never touched Brady. The flag wasn't coming out until Brady asked the ref for it - and he got it.

So don't stand there and tell me how the refs screwed you guys on anything when you've been handed the calls for years.

Ty for the correction.

Wasn't worth a flag, though. What kills me is that the ref wasn't throwing it until Brady asked for it.

So if you're one of those QB's that gets the hankies like that, don't cry when they don't go your way.

For once.
